I will try...

If I could follow the discussion correctly we are only talking about whether pressing ENTER should
a) only use tag the from the dropdown list or
b) immediately change the tag selection.

If we keep it as it is:
- we have a key (Enter) to choose from the drop down
- we have a key (Enter) to start a new tag selection (clearing the current selection)
- we have the possibility to enter more than one tag at a time

If we change that behavior we lose all that.
Unless I misunderstood something or unless there is a third option I see a clear winner.

Hi Chris,

thanks for jumping in here. As already said, i agree we should not change the behaviour, because of all the disadvantages you named. I think Alex asked, whether someone has an idea, how else we could come to a solution. :)

The only inconsistency that I spot is that ENTER has some kind of hidden feature.
It is not obvious that Enter can be used for 'doing a CTRL-Enter with clearing the current tag selection at the same time'
and of course we are missing the same feature for SHIFT+Enter and ALT+Enter.

The good thing is that I use CTRL-Enter much more often than the others
(so it is a good thing that ENTER does not perform e.g. an ALT-Enter).
To me: it is useful but not very smart - but unfortunately I'm lacking in ideas myself :(

I just realized that it is not that bad because at least it is consistent with the click behavior (a single click on the tag also clears the current tag selection).

The only other way I can think of is that ALT+Enter, CTRL+Enter and SHIFT+Enter also do NOT immediately change the tag selection but insert the tag into the search box until we hit Enter.
But this would lead to even more aftereffects (remember and visualize "AND", "OR", "NOT" for each tag in the search box) that I don't like.

Could someone else please chime in and tell us which way would you prefer it to work?

So at the moment: I would prefer to keep it like it is.

Great to have a consensus :)
Are there any more unanswered questions in this thread?)

Strange. The link works for me. I always check links that i post. Whatever, as written before, it is the confirmation message that is missing after registering the link protocol.

Seems that it doesn't matter now, this has been fixed in 2.0.4 Beta ;)
