[Ann] CintaNotes 2.0 Beta 2/3/4!

Hi all,
Good news! Finally the new beta is here!
We have now finished 3 great new major features that, we hope, will bring CintaNotes to a whole new level:

• Tabbed notebook sections
• Links to notes
• Simplenote synchronization

What has been done since the first preview:
- Fixed section state issues, the 'All' button now doesn't overwrite other tab's view settings;
- Import/export of sections;
- Context menu commands for moving sections left/right;
- Keyboard shortcuts for sections (Ctrl+Left/Right, Ctrl+`, Ctrl+Shift+Ins/Del, Ctrl+Shift+Left/Right);
- The "Add section" button (as a "plus" icon to the right of the tab control);
- The "Move/To Section/.." command in the note's context menu;
- Horizontal scrolling in the tab control (also with mouse wheel);
- Some small issues in note links functionality have been fixed;
- Manual syncing of a selected section's contents with SimpleNote service (File/Synchronization dialog);

What is planned for version 2.1:
- More note links improvements;
- Automatic background SimpleNote syncing;
- Section selector in the notes editor;
- (Maybe) Drag&drop support for moving sections and notes.

IMPORTANT:
1) THIS IS STILL A BETA VERSION AND CAN BE UNSTABLE. PLEASE BACKUP YOUR DATA BEFORE TRYING IT OUT.
2) THIS VERSION IS INCOMPATIBLE WITH PREVIOUS BETA (1.9.1). YOU SHOULD USE .DB FILES FROM 1.8.5 (OR CREATE A NEW NOTEBOOK AND USE XML IMPORT).

will this be the final database schema? I understand it is beta, but can we actually use it for production regarding the schema?

I see no reason why schema would change in the next 3 days before release.
However, using a Beta version for production is always a bad idea

...unless you're a beta tester and know how to handle issues I can not do much testing, because of lack of time, but am on the beta now. So it is at least a regression test .

Regression test is good too And if you've backed up your DB, nothing can really go wrong for you;)

I just hope that all those people who have voted for Tabbed Sections, Note Links and SimpleNote Sync will now stand up to the plate

The SN sync seems to be working great, but I've encountered one small issue with the new interface element and the Windows DPI setting. The box that the sync info appears in doesn't quite scale with the text (which is scaled due to my altered Windows DPI setting).

Thanks for the report! Is the log file complete on pastebin? Does it really end with "settings::TypedSetti" ?

No, it should just run. Was the log.1.txt file created? If so, could you please send it over?

Hi Alex,

while creating new notes using the global clipkey i ran into several problems.

1. When saving a note i got the following error:

Remark: I have the Main-TAB only. It is *not* marked as the clip-in-box!

3. When the search window is visible, the note editor opens, but it is always empty. No content is added from the clipboard. However, when the search window (main window) is minimized to the tray a new note together with the clip-content gets created.

4. When i deleted a note from the notes list, the corresponding notes editor remained open. It should have been closed, because the note was deleted.

5. When i export my database, the dialog offers current view 1033 rows and all 1036 rows. The problem is, i don't have a selection on the current view. Both should have the same number of rows. I exported both views to XML and compared the files. The one with the 1036 rows includes 3 rows i had deleted and that can not be searched for in the GUI. The section value is "-1". Did you implement a recycle bin that's not fully functional yet? Or is this just a plain bug?

This is all basic functionality i never had problems with!!!

To avoid further problems i recreated my database and imported my notes from the XML file containing the correct 1033 files. I noticed there are some new options in the import dialog. I didn't test them though.

The app just won't run on my Windows 8 pc. Nothing happens when I click the shortcut or the EXE.

First of all let me say that I'm really excited about the simplenote sync feature. This is definitely the feature I've been waiting for the most from the roadmap. Also now CintaNotes will be by far the best available PC simplenote client!

The sync process doesn't seem to work for me with my existing database. I loaded my (5000+) notes into the new version and hit the sync button, but the sync stops after uploading a few notes. Each subsequent press on the sync button uploads just a few more notes.
I'm using Win7 x64 and beta 2. I'm not using any custom sections, so the "Section to synchronize" is Main and all notes appear in this section.

How exactly were you saving a note? Via clip, paste, OK click in editor, Ctrl+S in editor?

This should be irrelevant, since when there is only one tab, it is automatically treated as inbox.

You mean all this after pressing Ctrl+V?

And what if you have some unsaved changes there?

Seems to be a bug. Most probably just a consequence of the problems above. Can you reproduce on a clean DB?
