Searching using notebook sections

Postby WorkingStorage » Fri Jan 25, 2013 9:04 pm

If I'm in a notebook section, will searches operate solely on that section ( queries are filtered by section first, or a resultset is returned and then filtered)? Or use only that section's tags?

Hi,

i am not sure what the intention of your questions is. My best answer is, that queries are filtered by section first. Tags are global, but tags with a tag-count of zero in that section, can be set to non-visible. Right click on the tag-bar and select "[X] only used tags". Btw, there is a shortcut ctrl+shift+space to select all notes regardless of their section membership. It is the same as clicking on button "All", which is placed to the most left TAB.

Yes. Notes are pre-filtered by section(s) first. Then filtered by tag selection (if specified). And only after that the text search is done (also if needed).
If you need to search simultaneously across multiple or even all sections, select these sections either by Ctrl+Clicking or by using the "All" button.

"Or use only that section's tags?" - tags are global and don't belong to sections, so this question doesn't make sense.

Can't believe I couldn't figure out that "All" is one way to search in all sections

(I was about to post a new thread asking about searching in all sections)

"All" is a small button which is easy to overlook :)
Maybe you have some ideas how to make it more evident?

Is it possible to have another entry in the search drop down like below?

All Sections
Anywhere
Text and Title
etc.

Sorry for the late reply. I'm afraid this would be mixing apples and oranges. Which sections are displayed is controlled by the section bar.
When you want to search in all sections, just press Ctrl+Shift+Space.
Hope this helps!
