[Ann] CintaNotes 2.0.4 Beta 1

Postby CintaNotes Developer » Mon Feb 18, 2013 11:10 am

Hi guys,
a new beta is ready to be put to test:) Hopefully you'll like it!

Feb 18, 2013 - Version 2.0.4 Beta1

In this version:

Enhancements:
  • Editor: added section selector.
  • Editor: added support for recognizing URLs with custom protocols
(Now links like onenote:// or evernote:// are recognized.)
  • CN now displays assigned section and tags in the balloon tooltip which appears on silent clipping.
  • Ctrl+Tab/Ctrl+Shift+Tab now can move away from the "All" section selection.
  • Added confirmation message box for the "Register link protocol" command.
Fixes:
  • Fixed SimpleNote sync authorization failed error.
  • Note could be saved into deleted section.
  • Section edit dialog color did not change when picked color changed.
  • Main window caption was not updated on deleting section.
  • Mouse wheel didn't work on notes list when search box had focus.
  • Editor: Ctrl+Tab could corrupt note links.
  • Ctrl+Shift+I started search for Tab character.

Download:
Installable: CintaNotes_2_0_4_Beta1_Setup.exe
Portable: CintaNotes_2_0_4_Beta1.zip

Hi Alex,

thanks for the latest release.

At first sight, i did not even notice the combobox. I had expected a "field" beneath the link-field. I am happy the choice is there to select the section. About the styling? Strange! Maybe it takes time to get used to it. Of course it doesn't take extra space this way. I noticed the window-color gets changed right away to reflect its state. Nice. Is there a shortcut to the combobox? Maybe Shift+F6 could be used, just as in the notes list.

Thanks for adding the change. When i 'exit' the all button using Ctrl+Tab it will automatically switch to the next TAB, not to the last TAB. This is different when exiting the 'All' button using Ctrl+Shift+Space. Is this by intention? It doesn't feel right, though i understand the possible reason for this: Ctrl+Tab switches the section. However, it can be thought of switching away from 'All' back to the last TAB. Another option would be to always switch to the TAB, right next to 'All'. Since this feature will eventually affect the handling of the final implementation with the new GUI design, i think it is worth a discussion.

Looks fine now :)

Wow nice.
One thing I noticed for existing notes with such a link is, that I have to open the note and confirm the line with the link with return.
Prior to that, it is not a click-able link. -> Not a big deal, but wanted to note it.

I used the selection box a lot today. That feature was overdue. :) I repeat my request, that a shortcut should be added to make it even better. :)

Also it would be nice to have arrow up to move to the link field and arrow down to move to the title. Arrow right/left can be used to change the value.

Is anyone using SimpleNote sync,
and is it working for you?

Can you open CintaNotes next to your browser (SimpleNote.com),
then, make changes to one, and have your various updates appear correctly in the other?

Can you create / delete notes?
Re-edit notes?
What about: notes with same title, notes with no title, empty notes?

Not working for me: Win8 (32-bit) / FireFox browser
I created a whole new SimpleNote acct to test this, and it doesn't work.
There's an initial sync. Changes on CN goto to SN, but not the other direction.

I can't sync via proxy which uses an automated configuration script. I get Authorization Failed.
Another tool I use, RoboForm, use has an option ‘Use WinInet layer for complex proxies’ that seem to get around that problem.
In other places, where there is no proxy, then all is fine.
All worked ok before the CN proxy option was introduced, but it won't work now even if I don't use a proxy, I get Can't connect 'Server name not resolved'

Things have improved
Now, at startup the sync says "Can't connect Server name not resolved"
But when I presss 'sync now' it works ok.

Good idea, I'll add Shift+F6 handling.

I think switching to the tab right next to All would feel more natural, I think I'll do it in the final 2.0.4 version.

Perfect. Imo, this is the most logical solution. I still can toggle using Ctrl+Shift+Space, if i want to switch back to the previous TAB.

Is it actually a big deal to also include switching into the 'All' button by using Ctrl+Tab/Shift+Ctrl+Tab? It would complement the feature.

Let's do it when the "All" button is transformed into a tab. While it is still a button, switching to it with Ctrl+Tab is rather counter-intuitive.

Thanks for pointing this out, Chris. Yes, you have to do this in order for the link-recognition logic to run- CintaNotes doesn't try to re-recognize all links which are stored in the database, it would take a long time)

I'm afraid I disagree here - I think many users will find it inconvenient (not all will realize that left-right arrows can be used and they'll think it's a bug).

Richard, I can use SN sync without problems.
notes with same title: ok
notes with no title: ok
empty notes: ok (uid is added)

There must be something about your system or configuration that's different.
Could you please provide a log file where a failed sync can be seen? This would really help, thanks.

CN does well by treating all controls as connecting them to one big control. That is you can scroll from the title, over the text, tag and link field, just by using arrow up/down. It's not windows standard, but it's fantastic to use. First time i used the selection box, i pressed arrow up to move back to the editor. I was unaware of this step, until i noticed it changed the value, rather than switching the control. I understand and accept your concerns, but wanted to let you know, that there might be other users like me, who consider it a bug, not to be able to switch the controls by using arrow up/down.

Well then let's let the users decide :) Could you please add it to the roadmap?

Yes - seems to have improved in 2.0.4.beta.
Be nice to have sync at start up - but it is livable with

First time I tried this, it quickly generated a log file of over 700 megs.
Then I tried again, generating 70 megs, which I edited down to under 2 megs.
I deleted most of the log file, which was repeating mostly empty lines.

Given: About 16 notes in SimpleNote.
The note titled 'MOST_ARE_JUST_TEST_NOTES_2013feb' has no body (it's empty).

Started up CN, created a new section, told it to sync to my SN acct, the one I've been having trouble with.
Loads maybe 3 notes, then hangs.
That's it.
I can close the CN app window, but the CN tray icon lingers until I shutdown via Windows Task Mgr.

Do you want me to email this log file to you?
It's 4,000 lines long.

Hope this helps (hth) & please let us know what the snag is :geek:
