[Ann] CintaNotes 2.2 Final

Postby CintaNotes Developer » Tue May 07, 2013 8:02 am

Hi all,
we are glad to present to you a new version! :)

May 7, 2013 - Version 2.2

In this version:

Features:
  • Simplenote sync: support for syncing of multiple sections

Enhancements:
  • Unified portable and installer versions into one distributive which can be installed both ways.
  • Simplenote sync: got rid of "Uid:" lines in synced notes
  • Recycle bin: added column with first non-empty text line from deleted note
  • Recycle bin: view deleted note on double-click
  • License renewal support

Fixes:
  • Notes list: note color didn't change when note was moved to another section
  • Reverted back to SQLite 3.7.13 due to performance and stability issues
  • Recycle bin: note couldn't be restored when section didn't exist

Download:
Installable + Portable: CintaNotes_2_2_Setup.exe

Alex,

i can not install, since my antivirus software (Avira) reports a virus "PCK/Enigma" in file "Enigma_Install_Utils.dll". I have them check the file. Probably a false alarm. I expect a result not before Wednesday.

Cool-Site "Virus Total". Thanks Alex, i didn't know of them. :) The problem though is, that Avira blocks the file and until they've updated their signatures i'll wait to install 2.2. I am not into disabling my Anti-virus software, not even temporarily.

Reason why many of us download the zip package is that we do not have install ability at work. With the unified portable and installer versions in one distribution, I will have to install the package at home and then copy the directory on a USB and bring it to work. Was there a request for this "enhancement"

Same as above but using AVG (Free)

reports a virus "PCK/Enigma" in file "Enigma_Install_Utils.dll".

----

Also something more serious, a run time error during install after choosing the target folder

(XP SP3, chose portable option installing in a desktop folder, error remains even trying again after a reboot)

The main reason why we've done this is to be able to warn the users when their license keys are outside of the 12-month free updates period, and it is very important to warn before install, to give the opportunity to stay with the last version covered by the license.
When there's no installer this is obviously not possible.
But thanks for bringing our attention to the administrator rights problem.
Probably it would still be worth it to provide the portable package, but already on the dowload page to warn that the license would need to be renewed if the key was purchased more than a year ago.
What do you think?

Reza, thanks a lot for the report!
I'll get to this on Monday, as soon as I get back to my PC from a short trip I'm now on.

Works for me. End User should not be downloading updates after lapse of the 1 year window of free updates.

Very nice. Actually wanted to use this before when checking recycle bin. However, there will be an exception when you try to paste to the editor. Of course this makes no sense, because the editor is read-only. However, an exception should not be raised. Also some items in the context menus of title, editor, link should be disabled to avoid confusion. I also suggest to show one button "Close" only. Well, "Cancel" would also be fine, but please hide the "OK" button.

All right, then we'll return the portable version (starting with the next) and add this warning. Thanks!

OK, sorry took me a little longer to get to this.. I've tried and failed to reproduce this error, so could you maybe provide
a bit more information:

- Exact target path
- Is installer running as admin?
- Where is the setup file located? Is it a read only place?

Huge thanks in advance!

Hi Thomas,
thanks a lot for the bug report and for the excellent suggestions, I've registered them on the tracker and you can expect them done in the next version!

I had the same error message, when actually my antivirus software blocked the file. Solving the AV issue removed that problem as well.

Thomas

BTW: Avira confirmed the false positive for the 2.2 setup file. However, they did not change their signatures. Instead i had to temporarily allow the scanner to access files packed with an unusual packer.

-C:\Documents and Settings\reza\Desktop\
-Yes
-I saved the set up on desktop and ran it from there. No it's not read only (I often install portable software in folders on desktop without issue)

I will try a temporarily (AVG) bypass similar to what worked for Thomas and post back.

Two more issues i've just noticed regarding the display note-editor-dialog. First, allow ESC to close the window. Second, add buttons "Restore" and "Delete" to the dialog. I had just to close the editor, so i was able to restore the note. An unnecessary step, right?

Temporarily disabling AVG's resident shield worked. Thanks Alex and Thomas :)
