[Ann] Preparing to roll out new website design!

Postby CintaNotes Developer » Tue Mar 25, 2014 10:04 am

Hi all,

already for some time cintanotes.com looks kinda dated. We started to develop a new look
last year, but with all disturbances etc only now the new site is more or less ready for
production. The new site is based on WordPress.

It's still not perfect, mind you. We plan to add a lot of good stuff and translate it
into other languages (at first German and Russian). We plan to add a blog, tools page,
tips&tricks page, a proper FAQ page. We plan to (finally) add some screenshots to
CintaNotes documentation.

But we also realize that if we waited for all this before releasing it to public, it will never
be ready. So we chose the evolutionary approach: we'll roll out the version that has
everything that existing site has. And then we'll build on it.

Still we believe that the new design is much better than the old one. It's more modern, it's cleaner,
it better supports high DPI devices. It does a better job in explaining why CintaNotes Free is great, and
why CintaNotes PRO is even better ;)

Here is the link to test-drive it:

http://cintanotes.com/wptest

We plan to put the new site live together with the upcoming 2.5.2 release.

Any comments are welcome. Thanks in advance!

Wow, it really does look more impressive, professional and clearly represented.

Hi Alex,

the new site is very nice indeed. Here are the results of my test:

  • Button "Get PRO" directly jumps to the "PayProGlobal" page. This is irritating. Rather than getting information first, why i should get PRO, i am invited to buy it immediately. Maybe the link should jump to the "Pricing" page first.
  • Button "Download Now" covers "Try it for fr" text at the bottom of the page.
  • Links on the "Support" page should open a new page/tab in the browser
  • Links on the "Support" section at the bottom area should open a new page/tab in the browser
  • the link to the translation center is broken
  • the "Features" link at the bottom is broken

Can't reproduce this. What browser are you using?

The site "googleusercontent.com" was blocked. I gave permission and it looks ok now.

FYI:
Whatever link I click in the main menu of the website I get:

Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@cintanotes.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Consider removing target="_blank" from your links. Sure, it'll result in the new page eating your existing window, but most browsers today forbid opening a new window without user interaction, so the alternative (current behavior) is that the new links won't open at all. Power users will be aware of this, but unless you're marketing exclusively to them, you're going to lose some visitors who are trying to research your product - which is the last step before purchase.

I would also recommend making a more prominent buy link on every page -- above the fold, ideally near the top-right corner.

You should also make the forum link more prominent.

Hi Daniel,
no problem - I've merged the threads.

I'm really glad that you liked the new design!
Please let me know if you see any ways to improve it ;) Thanks!

This is really good advice, thanks a lot!
