[Goodie] CintaNotes as a diary...

I actually stumbled upon the idea of using CintaNotes as a diary - made some tests and realized that it's really possible. You can store notes by dates. [a date becomes a tag] - as in picture below. The conveniant thing about it is the [date tags] are auto-sorted by date. I think there will be lots of uses for this...

Nice tip, doublewitt.
Actually, this could be made simpler if one could opt to have dates shown in the tags pane -- dates would have to be made editable, too (maybe a note properties option in the context menu could do this, since it most certainly is a low frequence modification)...

Maybe they could optionally add another "tags pane" for dates as you say but on the RIGHT side as an alternative notes entry for a diary... [word tags on the left - date tags on the right]

Shouldn't this tip be added to the tips thread?

Do you want me to put it there?

Hey guys,
why do you need to use dates as tags? That's not what CN is optimized for, and on this road you'll collect nothing but grief. CintaNotes timestamps all the notes automatically - why the extra tagging?

I agree, while it looks nice in the tags pane, you can always search by date, seems like something that might take Alex away from something really important!

That's true, I didn't realize that. You can enter any date in the search box and all notes will be filtered by it...
Great!

I'm affraid I was misunderstood here, I was just vouching for more flexibility on date management -- dates would still be assigned automatically, you'd just have options to have them show up on the tag pane (kind of an auto-tag) and to edit them...
Oh, well, never mind that, I'm still happy with CN.

As CintaNotes already timestamp all notes, it might automagically generate those "tags" on request, a kind of calendar control, and let the users navigate the notebook by dates. So we could aswer questions like "What was I doing last month? or last winter?". It's a feature we might consider at some point in the future

That's just what I want!

and I think CN should do something to make it.
1.Enhance the encryption functions(encrypt certain folders or tags just as a diary)
2.A comparatively strong and steady database
I looked for a software which can note, collect manage and keep my data, and I think cintanotes perform prefect in 'note' and 'collect',but the weak "keep" and "manage" fuction make me not dare keep my important data in it.I look forward to the strengthened cintanotes based on its effective and handy(while not like the huge, slow evenote

)

How do I search for notes created in a certain month of a certain year?

In the searchbox select "Creation date" as the search-scope. Enter date/month localized, e.g. mm.yyyy. The result will return all notes created since then. I don't know how to limit the result to that month only, but suggest to scroll to the end of the list or sort descending instead.

I do not see "Creation Date" only Creation Time. How does one specify month since mm which gets confused with day or hour or minutes. Also cannot enter mm/yyyy. Have to enter mm/dd/yyyy which defeats the purpose. What am I missing here?

Right now search by date is a bit limited in CN. It treats dates as text and does text search there.
In future will be replaced with a proper date filter (btw you can vote for this feature here:
http://roadmap.cintanotes.com/topic/317 ... ck-filter/).
So now the best way would be just to sort by date and to navigate to the place in the list where the needed month starts.

Not to toot my own horn too much, but I've been using my tag calendar approach pretty successfully.
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1401To search for a date, start typing the year and a slash (e.g. 2013/). Immediately, CN will provide a scrollable calendar. You can spot which days are Mo, Tues, etc. since the calendar is split at week boundaries. Since its a tag you can restrict the search to a year, month, week, or single day. From the tag sidebar, you can shift-select individual dates including whole months or weeks at a time. So if you wanted to restrict a search for camping entries to just the summer months, you could select shift June, July and August.
