  • Notebook title appeared in lowercase after closing another notebook
  • Tag suggestion list was unsorted
  • Deleting a section didn't move its notes to the Recycle Bin

Hi Alex,

Both downloads fail on my end, both directly through the browser or using a download manager. The download manager gets to 99% on both downloads, and then stops - it reports the server does not support download resuming, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not.

Chris, thanks for reporting! What about the browser - how exactly does it fail the download?

It's Firefox - so it downloads the file as a .part file and then when it completes, changes it to .exe or .zip. Firefox integrates with Google's safe search, which means it does on occasion block downloads - will download the file and then right at the end, say that it couldn't save it. In this case, it saved the .part but then just reported it as 'could not complete'. I then tried the download manager - it avoids Googles safe search, and that is how I usually get around Firefox not saving files - Firefox does not tell you why it failed to save sadly, you have to make some guesses. In this case, the download manager got to 99% and then stopped (as the server does not support resuming, it could go no further).

No problem with download here. Both Chrome and CN's download mechanism worked.

Ok, I will give it a few more hours and try again. May be some sort of connection issue between the CN servers and my ISP's network.

Chris

Edit: Just tried again now, just for laughs. Same thing - Firefox just says 'Failed', and my download manager gets to 99%, stops, and then can't restart to do the last 1% because the CN server doesn't support resuming. Sigh.

Chris, do you by any chance have ESET NOD32?
I just learned that it has a false positive detection for the last release (report already sent to ESET).

Maybe this is connected.

Yes, I do run ESET. I have just checked the ESET logs, and yes, that is exactly the problem.

Praise be, ESET have finally got off their rear ends and have updated their definitions. Now I can finally download CN! VirusTotal is still using defnitions two days old though, so it will still be detected there, but has been fixed in definition 10637 (20141029).

No, it's me, I have replaced the download files with other ones.
Since our protector uses virtualization, each time a file is packed, a different instructions are generated.
Sometimes they match some of AV's definitions, like in this case. All what's needed to do is to protect the exe
again.

2.8.1 Final - usual misleading message when installing

Postby RSchiaffino » Thu Oct 30, 2014 12:03 am

I don't mind too much for myself, but I think that the usual misleading message that appears when installing an update should be corrected.

I'm referring to the message that states that the license is no longer valid and that the program will therefore revert to the non-pro version.

1) If I had not encountered it before, I would stop installation at that point, rather than risk losing the prop functionality
2) Even for users (like me) who know they can "safely" ignore the message, I think it is a problem: what if for some reason or another we get past the expiration date of our license and unwittingly install a new version: we ignore the message (because we are accustomed to do so), only this time we should have paid attention.

I think this is a bug that should be corrected: the program should display the "license no longer valid" message only when the license is, in fact, no longer valid.

Hi Riccardo,
thanks for bringing the issue up.

I guess we'll have to remove the message altogether since at the stage of installing there's no reliable way
to tell that the license is expired.

After all, the users of the portable version live without this message and no one ever complained..

Hallo,
there are problems installing and running the update 2.8.1.
I use w8.1 and up to now I had no difficulties installing updates.
I added 2 screenshots of the errors.
What should I do, go back to the previous version?

Kind regards
Yogi

Hi Yogi,
Thanks a lot for the report!

Do you still have the corrupted database file? I suspect this could be the problem of your old file - the corruption was there, but was exposed by the upgrade, because the upgrade modifies the database schema.

To verify this, could you please do the following:

1) Download Sqlite shell utility from here: http://sqlite.org/2014/sqlite-shell-win ... 080701.zip
2) Make a copy of your 2.7.2 database file, put sqlite3.exe near it
3) run "sqlite3 cintanotes.db " (or whatever the name is)
4) type "pragma integrity_check", press Enter
5) tell me the results

If the result is "OK" would be great if you could do the same for the corrupted 2.8 file, if you still have it.

Thanks!

Hallo Alex,
my upgrade was from 2_6_1.
Does this change the procedure you suggested?
When a upgrade happens with a change of the database, are the hourly and weekly backups also changed?
And will it be possible to fix the database structure with the utility?
Otherwise I have to be afraid to have lost some important data.

The following is the text of the log.txt:
Timestamp Thread Forced Function Details
16:39:21.215880 5036 logging::Log::init Started logging
16:39:21.215880 5036 X ui::wndProc ERROR:class db::DatabaseException
SQLite Error 11:
database disk image is malformed
16:39:21.262755 5036 X wWinMain ERROR:Precondition failed:
tools::ptr<class app::controls::TagSidebar>::get
pointee

Also I attached another error which happened when I tried to load the database file again with version 2_6_1 with which it originaly workt very well.

Regards

Yogi

Hallo Alex,
I tried using sqlite3 anyway but it seems I need some more directions using it.
when I start it like you said, after "pragma integrity_check" I get a prompt like this:
...>
but nothing happens otherwise.
When I start the same command with a "." like the other commands of sqlite3 it says:
unknown command or invalid arguments.
In the list following .help this command is also not mentioned.

Sorry, I forgot to put a semicolon after the command: pragma integrity_check;

Dear Alex,
the file: cintanotes (before upgrade to 2.7.1).2014-09-09_1546 get an OK from pragma integrity_check.
the following database updates get some error message. I attached the errormessages.
It seems that I never tried to update to 2.7.2. of the programm.
The check for the last updates (before 2.8.1) and for cintanotes.db also fail.
Now is there any possibility to fix at least the files from version 2.7.1 (all in Oktober 2014)
How do I get a running system again?

Kind Regards
Yogi

Hi Yogi,
thanks for the screenshot!

It seems that only the indices are corrupted - this is good, it means that the main data is intact!

To fix the problem, please do the following:

1) Exit CintaNotes
2) Rename your 2.8 corrupt database (e.g. to cintanotes0.db)
3) Start CintaNotes, it will create a new blank database
4) Import from your renamed database using File/Import
5) (Optional) Delete the duplicate main section
6) Recreate your search- and sort-options

Please also refer to this page for tips how to fix it, in case the steps above don't help:
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=156&start=20#p7331

Please let me know if this helps!
