Hi,
a few months ago I sadly had to leave CN because of network isseus at my company.
We migrated to a Citrix environement with virtual desktops.
So I had to work with OneNote but I miss CN (tears falling.... ).

I've a question.
Why is it that a portable apps like PDFXCview or PDFTKBuilderPortable or 7Zip run smoothly and CN not?
After starting CN.exe i get the message see attachment.

Hi awm,

Could you please translate what's written on the error box?
Have you tried running clean CintaNotes from cintanotes.com, not portableapps version?
Thanks!

If it is of any help: 'These files can't be opened - Your Internet security settings prevented one or more files from being opened.'

A quick google will tell you about IE settings, long path names, alternate datastreams (ADS), windows defender, and more, being possible causes.

Thanks a lot, date. Indeed seems this is not a CN issue.

Thanks for your responses.
But my question still stands imo.
Why are other portable apps running without any isues under the same internet security settings and why do they pop up using CN?
So imo it is an CN issue. Right?

It might not be that simple. Please try this:
Create a folder in your 'My Documents' folder, call it 'test.' (Or something.)
Download the portable CN (a zip file) from cintanotes.com, save it in the 'test' folder.
Download the PDF X-Change viewer (from tracker-software.com, a zip again,) save it again in the 'test' folder.
Do these both from the same browser, in the same environment.
Extract both .zip files in that folder, choose 'extract here.'
Run both executables, see if they now both work, both don't, or it still is just CN that won't run.

I assume it's not your own computer and you can't reset IE settings etc.? But anyway, please give the above a try ;)

Date,

YOU MADE MY DAY! :D The sun shines.
@Alex: I'm back.
I don't understand why and how, but it works!

(you were right, it is not my computer and thus internet settings are limited for me, only systemadministrator can set them)

Youre welcome.
Might be those pesky ADS's, sometimes added by security software to track where a file came from, also maybe IE adds those. Or something else, I'm not sure either. Next time this happens, try moving the folder around, or redownload the program. (I also wondered why you renamed the executable with two underscores in front.)

It might also be that the version from cintanotes.com works, but some other versions like from portableapps may not (because they add their wrapper).
BTW why your version of cintanotes.exe had double underscore in front of it?

All portable versions of CN I downloaded from CN site. None worked but after downloading it within de browser I use in Citrix environement, it works !!!

There's no special reason for the two underscores. I think I added them while testing and testing and testing to get CB working in our company citrix environement.

Man, you cannot imagine how glad I'm using CN again. All my notes untill March this year are available now and prove be a valuable source of information I had to leave in March. Now I'm back on track with CN and appreciate the functionalities more than ever. OneNote cannot compete with CN.

That clarifies a bit.
But when somehow CN doesn't work, but the .db is still there, you never really have to lose access right? You could have e-mailed the .db to yourself and so on...
