CN for most Linux distros with Snap?

Postby danielson » Wed Feb 28, 2018 2:22 pm

Had posted on an old Roadmap thread but no one seems to be noticing it.

In doing a Snap version, CN could reach out to most popular Linux platforms with less hassle imo.

Hi Daniel,

all well and good.. but you know that CintaNotes doesn't run on Linux, right?) Or do you mean running in Wine?

Actually, it's quite different and recent.
Some prefer Snap over Flatpack.
Here's an article about the differences and reason to adopt Snaps instead:

It would be imo, much safer and easier in the long run than working at compatibility through Wine.

This is very cool and I'm sure it's the technology of the future. However it still requires re-writing CintaNotes from the ground up, what is a no-go for us for obvious reasons.. Does it integrate well with Qt?

That is a good question to which i am absolutely unqualified to answer.

Linux market is small, but, with distros like MX and Solus, i'm slowly leaning away from nosy Windows 10.
Solus is good looking and so fast on my SSD (much faster to boot and shutdown than any other Linux distro and three times faster than Windows).

I know, everyone has their favorite.
But if a CN version for Linux could be on the market...
Simplenote Linux version is handy and quite good, but CN would be much nicer.

I agree, and migrating to Qt would be a good step into the direction of migrating to other platforms. But still Windows clients remain our #1 priority.

Btw, i would not hesitate to contribute again with a few bucks (and good words in forums) for a Linux version (even if i have lifetime on Windows).
Especially if it comes out as nice as the one you're working on for Windows! :)

Well migration to Qt is already a huge step in that direction. Many things that depend on Windows API will remain for now, however it will be a matter of time till we replace them with cross-platform modules. Probably a long time though..
