tagging problem

Postby Bill » Tue Apr 16, 2019 7:57 pm

A small question about tagging.

Occasionally when I type a tag name in the tag line, followed by a return, it closes the note instantly -- even when I have already created a tag by that name.

Here is an example of something that happened to me just a few minutes ago. I have a tag called *music*. When I added *music* in the tag line of a note and hit the return key, I immediately found myself pushed out of the note.

I have discovered that if I insert a space after *music*, it will not dump me, but I find this rather confusing, because most tags do not behave that way. I would guess that perhaps 5-10 percent of my tags do this.

Generally, it is important whether the tag suggestion popup is visible at the moment when you press Enter.
If it is not visible, then the note will close, as the Enter will go to the default OK button.
If the popup is visible, the Enter press closes the popup.

Thanks for the explanation, but I have done a few quick tests this morning, and I am still mystified.

I tried using the music tag again. If, in the tag line, I type mus, the popup shows two tags: museum and music. If I continue typing so that the tag now reads musi, then music only appears in the popup list, and if I hit the enter key, at that point the tag music is inserted in the tag line. In other words, up to this point the behavior seems normal to me.

But if instead I type the full word music, it disappears from the popup list when I add the c at the end of the word. And hitting the enter key at that point dumps me out of the note.

I have examined music closely in the tag list, and I see nothing abnormal about it. (I worried that perhaps I had put a space after the word when I originally created the tag.)

One key question: when you press Enter, is the tag suggestion dropdown still visible or not?

Alex, as usual, I feel as if I'm dealing with supernatural mysteries!

This morning I've done some further experiments, and I cannot make the tag function misbehave as it did two days ago. The only solution, I assume, is for me to keep a careful eye on it, and if at some point selecting a tag dumps me out of the note again, I will let you.

Hi tocnaza, could you please elaborate what "I already worked" means? Thanks!
