Alex, do you have any estimate yet of when some of us will be able to try out a pre-release version 4?

It'll be ready in its time i am sure.

Can only guess what it's like to build from scratch.

Currently we aim to release a beta this fall. The amount of work which is still to be done is huge, but the good thing is that
it won't be a copy of version 3 just with another UI design. It will already contain a nice set of long-awaited features, like view modes, note grouping, and - finally - convenient handling of images.

I don't want to show anything which would be viewed as inferior to version 3.x, so you'll need to be patient till v.4 is good enough for a
public beta-test. Thanks a lot for your understanding and ongoing support!

No need to apologize for the delay. I don't have a technical background -- I write books, not software -- but I can easily imagine how time-consuming this is. Now I have something to look forward to in the fall.

No worries. While I'm looking forward to v4, v3 is working just fine for me. I don't have a compelling need to have a new version every 3 months. :D Perhaps an occasional "sign of life" post by you would help to leave the impression that work is ongoing.

I agree though that the spam on the forum leaves a bad impression. Even if removed promptly, it does make it into Feedly and other feeds

Thanks, Gunars!
I'll take a look what can be done to prevent spam, but most probably it's an endless battle that can't be won for good.

Whatever the outcome of version 4 will be, i have no doubts that it will be just as helpful as ever! ;)
Imo, CN is an excellent "cross-browser" app even on the free level.

One thing time has shown me, unless you are a total newcomer, the more you get accustomed to a note taking app, it's very hard (almost impossible) to make a complete switch to another.

Thanks, Daniel, for your trust! ;) I'll do my best to make new version better in many ways, but still as efficient as v3 was.

Is there any good news about version 4?

Unfortunately we had to push the plans and dates a little further.
Changing the UI platform is a huge undertaking.
If all goes well, we'll do our best to release a preview version before new year.

Hi, Alex

When can we expect a (alpha, beta) version 4 of Cintanotes?

Hi,

Unfortunately we've had a number of major setbacks, so it will be a while. Now I'm wary to give out any dates because people take them as promises and not as "this is how we plan it". Don't want to release prematurely, spoiling the first impression.

Hi Alex,

Don't worry: CN 3 works as a charm as is... better that v. 4 takes a while longer, and you get it right, than for it to be buggy.

Hi Riccardo, thanks, that's my thoughts exactly!
I've always admired how Blizzard took its time to polish the games before release.

Alex, a follow-up on my question of last June:

Can we look forward to glimpsing version 4 in 2020?

Hi Bill and sorry for the delayed reply - I have been going through some health issues lately.
I'm doing my best to make CN4 appear this year, but am now facing some very tough technical challenges.
Nothing that can't be overcome, but since I'm now working on CN alone and only half time, this can still take a while.

Me and my CN partners (who currently are not actively involved in CN) are now going through negotiations with a potential investor who sees a lot of potential in CN and is interested in taking it to the next level. If we strike a deal, we'll be able to have a whole team work on the next version of CN and the development will speed up considerably.

The problem is that the investor wants to expand the CN's scope to include task management and features aimed at enterprise teams, and we are not 100% sure about this. So the question in still up in the air.

Alex, this is a surprising development; I hope you'll keep us posted (as much as you are able) on how these negotiations go. I continue to find new uses for CintaNotes almost every day, and I want to believe that it has a solid future.

And I hope, too, that you're feeling better now.

Hi Alex, hopefully your negotiations include the keeping of the portability feature, and the recognition of existing lifetime licences. However, continued portability is preferred over continuance of the lifetime licence in my specific use case.

The beauty and simplicity of CintaNotes is its narrow focus on notes, and NOT trying to compete with other "jack of all trades" software. CintaNotes has NO peer, and your work to date is exemplary.
