Beta M5 Version Released!

In this version:

  • URL retrieval from Firefox, Opera, Chrome and Safari (Feature)
    Now not only for IE: note's link is automatically filled when you clip text from pages viewed in these web browsers.

  • Export notes to a Unicode text file (Feature)
    You can now export notes to a unicode text file using the File / Export command.

  • Configurable clipping hot key (Feature)
    Finally you can change the default Ctrl+F12 key combination. See Options / Clipping Hot Key. Our favorite is Win+X :roll: Unfortunately it can't be the default one: officially Win key is reserved for the system.

  • Note count display (Enhancement)
    CintaNotes now reveals how many notes there are in your notebook and how many were found during search.

  • Adjustable note lines display (Enhancement)
    You can adjust the count of note lines that should be displayed in the main list using the View / Note Appearance dialog.

  • Ctrl+Space is now working properly (Fix)
    It did not toggle note selection as it should.

  • No administrator privileges required to install (Fix)
    Now you don't have to be an administrator to install CintaNotes. Just remember that in this case Program Files folder is not writable and choose another one during installation.

Jan 30, 2009 — New Release: Beta M6

* Two new fully configurable hot keys (Feature)
Now you can use a hot key to call CintaNotes window (Ctrl+Alt+F12 by default) and to add a new note (unassigned by default).

* "-m" command line parameter (Feature)
Run "cintanotes.exe -m" to start CintaNotes minimized to tray.

* "Always on top" option (Feature)
Use this switch of the Options menu to make CintaNotes window stay always on top.

* Possibility to search all fields (Feature)
A new Anywhere search mode was added, which is now the default.

* Improved text clipping (Enhancement)
The clipping is now faster and more reliable. For example, clipping now works in Outlook 2007 preview pane and in Adobe Illustrator. Also CintaNotes can now clip page URLs from any browser that fully supports HTML clipboard format. And even more, the URLs are now clipped from CHM files as well.

* Tags and links displayed in the notes list (Enhancement)
Now notes list displays note tags and, if a note has a link, the link icon. Alt-clicking on a note (or pressing the F3 key) will open the note's link in your default browser.
Also note creation date/time has been moved to the right and doesn't display seconds anymore.

* Editor font is now the same as note text font (Enhancement)
* Additional keyboard shortcuts (Enhancement)

Ctrl+F — focus search box (not strictly necessary since you can just start typing, but some people are more comfortable this way).

In the search box:
Ctrl+Up/Down/PageUp/PageDown - navigate search modes;
Alt+Down — display search mode menu;
Down Arrow — go to search results.

In the note editor:
Up/Down/PageUp/PageDown — navigate the edit boxes;
Ctrl+Down — go to the Tags edit box.

* Text boxes in note editor now have standard context menus. (Enhancement)
* Settings were not saved in case of system shutdown. (Fix)
* CintaNotes couldn't run if Ctrl+F12 hot key was taken by some other application. (Fix)
* Note edit dialog didn't remember its position and could go off-screen. (Fix )

Applied two small bugfixes to the newly released version:

1) Pressing F3 with empty notes list crashed the program;
2) Ctrl-Alt-F12 was not assigned by default to the show window hot key.

The links to download the Beta M6.1 version are the same.

* Executables are packed with UPX. The portable version is now just 333Kb!

Another small bugfix release: Beta M6.3

* Fixed: XML export - the symbols '&', '<' and '>' were not properly escaped, which lead to XML tools being unable to process these files.

BetaM7 version will come out March 1.
I fell a bit behind the schedule because of great workload at my day job.
I'm very sorry for this delay, but I hope you understand that I don't want to develop in haste and release a half-baked product.

And now the interesting part: features that will be in Beta M7.

- Silent Clipping
- Automatic Backup
- XML Import
- Add/Remove tag command applicable to note selection
- Tag manipulation: rename, merge and split tags.

Beta M7 Released!

What's new:

* Silent Clipping mode (Feature)
If Options/Silent Clipping is activated, CintaNotes will not pop up after each clipping, but will display a balloon tip instead. Clicking on it would open CintaNotes.

* Importing notes from XML and .dat files (Feature)
There is now a new File/Import menu item.

* Automatic note backup (Feature)
Simple as yet, but nonetheless: each 10 min your notes are saved to backup/notebook.backup.dat.

* Basic note reordering (Feature)
You can move notes up and down with Alt+Up and Alt+Down arrow keys.

* Add/Remove tag command applicable to note selection (Feature)
At last it's possible to tag several notes at once: just select them and press F4 (or select the Tag... command from the context menu).

* Tag manipulation: rename, merge and split tags (Feature)
There's a new Edit/Replace Tags command. It's simple but powerful: it enables tag renaming, splitting, merging and deleting. Generally, each tag specified in the first edit box is replaced with all tags from the second edit box.

* Background saving: now notes are saved in background, making the application more responsive. (Enhancement)

Hot Fix: Beta M7.1

* Fixed regression: The note body text was not searchable.

Yep, Murphy again, as always right after release. Good that I've discovered it myself, but would be better if I discovered it before doing the release. Sorry for that and please update!

Download Beta M7.1 from the main download links on the homepage.

Minor update: Beta M7.2

* Search for multiple tags (Feature)
This feature missed the Beta M7 release, and will be included in Beta M8, but since it's complete I thought there's no reason to keep you waiting for another two weeks.
Just type your tags in the search box, separated with spaces. And you don't have to type whole tags, partial matches are also ok.

* Fixed: CintaNotes did not save page URLs when clipping from Opera@USB.

Apr 7, 2009 — Beta M8 is out!

At last, the long awaited release! Here is what's new:

* Tags Sidebar (Feature)
This is a handy tool for fast access to different tags and tag sets. It is basically the controller of the built-in tags filter. Turn it on using the View/Tag Sidebar command. See the Help section describing tags sidebar.

* Exporting selected notes (Enhancement)
Now the File/Export command has a submenu, which lets you specify whether you want to export all notes or just the selection. The new keyboard shortcuts F11 and Ctrl+F11 are introduced here as well.

* New note reordering commands (Enhancement)
You can now move selected notes to top pressing Alt+Home, and to the very bottom pressing Alt+End. Also, the note reordering commands are now accessible from the menu.

* At startup, CintaNotes now warns you if it detects and activates an already running program instance. (Enhancement)

* Alt+Down in the search box was not displaying the search mode menu as it should. (Fix)

* In the note edit dialog, it was not possible to select text till the end of note using Shift+Down. (Fix)

Please discuss the new release in this topic, your feedback is greatly appreciated!

New Release: Beta M9

  • Tag autocompletion (Feature)
    No need to remember or look up tags anymore! In any tag-entering field CintaNotes now displays a dropdown list of available tags as soon as you start typing. Pressing Spacebar, Return or Tab accept the currently highlighted sugggestion, whereas Esc or Del cancel it. You can also force autocomplete display via pressing Ctrl+Space.

  • "Run at system startup" option (Feature)
    Check "Options / Run at system startup" to have CintaNotes start automatically. It will start minimized to the system tray. Use this option with care if you run CintaNotes from an USB stick, since if the stick is absent CintaNotes won't be found during system startup.

    Tag sidebar now highlights tags which are related to any tag of the currently selected set. Two tags are considered related if there are notes which have them both.

Sep 14, 2009 - Update Beta M10.3 Released

  • Enhancement: Automatic reloading of changed notebook file.
    If you use services like DropBox or Syncplicity to synchronize your
    CintaNotes notebooks, this will protect the newer version of the
    notebook from being overwritten with the old version (this could
    happen if you kept CintaNotes running on two or more PCs
    simultaneously).

  • Fix: CintaNotes used to hang when you used the clipping function while having the
    note editor active and the "Open in Editor" option turned on.
