New Release - Beta M7

Beta M7 Released - Please discuss it here!

What's new:

* Silent Clipping mode (Feature)
If Options/Silent Clipping is activated, CintaNotes will not pop up after each clipping, but will display a balloon tip instead. Clicking on it would open CintaNotes.

* Importing notes from XML and .dat files (Feature)
There is now a new File/Import menu item.

* Automatic note backup (Feature)
Simple as yet, but nonetheless: each 10 min your notes are saved to backup/notebook.backup.dat.

* Basic note reordering (Feature)
You can move notes up and down with Alt+Up and Alt+Down arrow keys.

* Add/Remove tag command applicable to note selection (Feature)
At last it's possible to tag several notes at once: just select them and press F4 (or select the Tag... command from the context menu).

* Tag manipulation: rename, merge and split tags (Feature)
There's a new Edit/Replace Tags command. It's simple but powerful: it enables tag renaming, splitting, merging and deleting. Generally, each tag specified in the first edit box is replaced with all tags from the second edit box.

* Background saving: now notes are saved in background, making the application more responsive. (Enhancement)

Hope you'll enjoy this release ;)

How do I update my portable M6 CintaNotes to M7? I tried to install it to my flash drive in my CintaNotes folder, but I was unable to get it to update. Help!

First, backup your notebook.dat file or export your notes to XML - just in case.
Then make sure that you exit CintaNotes - it shouldn't sit in tray.
Then download Beta M7 portable and unpack cintanotes.exe and HELP folder right into your Beta M6 portable folder.
Alternatively, you can unpack it into a new location and copy notebook.dat and cintanotes.settings files over.

Please let me know if everything's ok.

Hot Fix: Beta M7.1

* Fixed regression: The note body text was not searchable.

Yep, Murphy again, as always right after release. Good that I've discovered it myself, but would be better if I discovered it before doing the release. Sorry for that and please update!

Download Beta M7.1 from the main download links on the homepage.

Thanks Alex! I just forgot to close out of CintaNotes prior to upgrade. It was sitting in my tray.

hi,

thanks for this great release, im liking the tag system, but i would like to request additional search function for tags, i joined my two cintanotes with two specific subjects, tagged them with their respective subjects. the problem is i cant search for items in a tag. example i tagged 10 notes with the same subject, i search for the tagged, the 10 notes appear, now i can't search for a specific note. i would like to suggest a search function for tags + notes or a sidebar with all the tags on it so i can click the tag on the sidebar then search for a specific note.

thanks

Edit Note & Close
When I edit a note and click close it looses my changes.
Could it either save the changes or at least warn me changes were being discarded?
Great product - I keep finding new uses for it.

Hello and thanks for your feedback!
Yes, the tag sidebar is already on the roadmap. Also you might want to check out the latest build BetaM7.2 which supports search for multiple tags at once - just type them all in, space-separated:

You are absolutely right. Now this X button is the same as "Cancel". I'll change it to mean "OK".
I'm really sorry if you've lost some information because of this quirk.

Searching for tags doesn't work for me in M7.2. I've created a sample database to illustrate the problem. I'm unable to upload it right now, so here's what I did:
  • Delete/rename the old notebook.dat file
  • Create a new note with title "My first note" and tags "FirstTag SecondTag" (without the quotes)
  • Searching for "Second" or "SecondTag" does not produce a result.

This behaviour is independent of where I choose to search (Anywhere, Tags).
Highlighting in tags works, though, when I just search for "s" the s in all tags is highlighted.

Other than that: Great work, this is a nice little application! Resist bloat!

This is really strange! I cannot reproduce this. Maybe you could send me your notebook.dat over to bug@cintanotes.com? Thank you!

When I try move a note after I have selected a subset of my notes by text search, the move does not *always* occur. Sometimes it does - sometimes it does not. Its not a major problem as I can see it does not move. Nod

Yes I confirm this, thank for the report. Will be fixed in the next version.

What's new:

Would it be possible to allow the user to change the ALT to, for example, CTRL?
Then I would be able to move my notes one handed.
Thanks

Eagerly awaiting the next update.

These look great for any of us that spend way too much time attached to a keyboard, thanks!
