A new note can be created from within the main window only. It should also be possible to create a new note from within the edit window, e.g. using the "insert" hotkey.

Thanks. Though this does the job i was suggesting a hotkey inside the edit window only, not using a system wide hotkey.

The insert key cannot be used to create a new note inside the edit window because generally the insert key in this context has a different semantic. It is used to toggle between the "insert" and "overwrite" writing modes.
Can you explain why the global hotkey does not fit your requirements and you would like a third key to create a new note? thanks!

Yes the insert key has a different semantic. Though it happened naturally to me, when i wanted to create a new note while editing an other note and pressed the "insert" key, but nothing happened ;) I have now declared an hotkey for inserting a new note via the options menu, which does the job. I was just trying to avoid another "global" hotkey to the windows system.
