[UI] Windows 7 Jump List Support

Postby Grumphus » Sat Jun 25, 2011 3:57 am

Hi everyone. I'm new here and I want to say that I absolutely love this application. I was looking around the roadmap page and saw all sorts of requests but I couldn't find anything related to jump lists. I'm referring to that Windows 7 feature where you can right-click the CintaNotes icon on your Windows 7 taskbar so you can a custom menu.

I would personally like to see a structure like this when you bring up the jump list:

Code: Select all

----Pinned-----------------------
<pinned note 2>
<pinned note 1>
----Recent-----------------------
<recently opened note 5>
<recently opened note 4>
<recently opened note 3>
<recently opened note 2>
<recently opened note 1>
----Tasks------------------------
New Note
---------------------------------
CintaNotes
Pin/Unpin this program to taskbar
Close window

Then regarding those recently opened notes, you can "pin" them to the top of the jump list so you can quickly bring them up whenever you need to. This is currently what I do with Windows Notepad when managing my notes.

Another nice advantage (if this is possible) is that you can access the "New Note" option or open another note even if CintaNotes isn't running since the taskbar icon is still pinned. CCleaner managed to implement something like this where you can start at a different section of the program through the jumplist.

I'm pretty sure there are more ideas for this feature. If you guys can implement this feature, I would migrate all of my text files to CintaNotes and will definitely keep it pinned on my taskbar.

Hope this feature can be considered. I'm not a developer so I don't know how complicated this is to implement, but I think this is a nice extra feature that doesn't add any bloat to the overall program. Big thanks and more power to the development. :)

Hello Grumphus, thanks for your feedback and message. Sometimes it may seem a bit quiet here, but rest assured that all suggestions are welcome and considered from the developer. I read a bit about jump lists implementation and I'm not sure it can be implemented exactly like you envisioned, but these are details that can discussed later in due time. The feature will probably appear on UserEcho to prioritize it and have the feedback of other CN users.

CintaNotes is under development and AFAIK the feature being implemented is rich text support for notes, unfortunately it's requesting a lot of time and efforts, but after that we can pester the developer a bit more actively :)
