Yes please. Have the same wish. Like e.g. Windows notepad has it using "F5" inserting Date/Time.
I trace issues and add comments and develpments in one note.

BTW what the exact format should be? Obviously it can't be the same for US and Europe..

To start with, the short-format of the local windows settings could be used. I am afraid though, that won't satisfy (most) users, e.g. someone else might want to have the time included. PSPad offers a nice config dialog; see the attached screenshot. I know this is quite some effort for such a small functionality. A more easy to implement option would be to allow changing the setting directly in CN's settings file using standard syntax, e.g. dd.mm.yyyy.

I just thought, why not use the same format as the created/modified date/time label uses?
Would there be any problems with that?

As a start that sounds very reasonable :)

(Late as always) Normalization will always be a worthy goal, so please heed what ISO 8601 standard proposes: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_8601

Regional variants should only come afterwards, IMHO.

Hi Midas,
but why would you need ISO dates inside your notes? could you please elaborate?

ISO dates would be good for me - I use them all the time - but didn't know about that ISO until now (Thanks, Midas)

I disagree. I understand your argumentation, but imo it is more important to have CN consistent date/time display throughout the GUI. No need to introduce something new.

I support Alex' suggestion to use the standard format of CN. The date/time display could be made configurable though, inside the settings-file.

Hi there,

While I understand and value Thomas' argument -- it's paramount to keep consistency around the program's interface -- keep in mind that the YYYY-MM-DD ISO format is the official EU approved format for all its 27 countries; also, it has the functional advantage of holding an ever increasing integer, making sorting rather easy.

I didn't mention the time part deliberately, since there would lie yet another source of disagreement: while most continental Europe follows the 24 hour form ('military time' in the counterpart speak), most Anglo-saxonic countries still live by the 12 hour system, AM/PM postfixed...

In the culture I come from DD-MM-YYYY would still feel more 'natural', but in this case I will gladly trade for the standardized form. For more reasons, please check the Wikipedia article as well as the standard's text.

I concur that the settings file would provide a working solution for this, too.
