[Search] Identifying search term as a tag

All the new methods of uncluttering the tag list (in v1.7) are nice, but they still don't solve my concern with tag searches. I would like it to be easier and quicker to search and select a particular tag, even if the search target dropdown is set to something other than tags. For me, a frequent operation would be to search for all notes tagged with "x" which contain keyword "y". To do that now you need to take a series of steps, such as first find and select the tag, then type the search term; or change the search target to tags, search for the tag, change the search target to text, type the search term.

Two possible suggestions:

1. Add a separate search dialog box at the top of the tags list. It could be an incremental search (like the existing search dialog), which would simply filter the tags list rather than the notes list; or

2. Add a special character in the regular search dialog box which allows me to designate a search term as specifically a tag. I see that the slash character is beginning to take on special meaning with respect to tags in v1.7; perhaps that would be a good choice. So in my example above, I would simply search for "/x y". Or maybe "/x/ y", or something along those lines.

You might want to vote for this request: save predefined searches. That request should include the possibility to save a tag-filter and a search-term, as you suggested.

Hi jwolfeld,

there actually already exists a way to do this. Please try:

1) type "x" and press Ctrl+Enter (=> tag "x" becomes selected)
2) type "y"

The idea with forward slash is interesting, thanks. I have added it to the roadmap: http://roadmap.cintanotes.com/topic/123 ... -as-a-tag/
