Leave Text Blank when using Ctrl+F12

When you clip some text with Ctrl+F12, CintaNotes automatically adds the text as the note title, but then also duplicates that same text into the body of the note. It would be really nice to have an option to stop CN from putting that text into the body - it is a waste of time when it is exactly the same as the note title, and you have to delete it.

What is your Options/Clipping/Use as Title setting?

Alex,

There is an option to control title behaviour, but as i understand the request, the request is for the body.

Yes - Thomas is correct, it is for the body text. The title text is fine.

Alex,

rather than introducing a new option it makes sense to leave the body empty, when the message text is one line only, which will be used for the title anyway. No need to duplicate it to the body.

Ok now I understand.
So the suggestion is: "if clipped note is just one line, and "use first line as title" is set, then don't duplicate this line in the note's text".
Is that correct?

Mine is set to Application Title rather than First Line Of Text, but yes - that is basically correct. Application Title and First Line will be the same when only one line is selected, so it should apply to both.

Hm, why is that? Application title can be quite arbitrary and certainly is independent from the selection.

Not sure to be honest - it might be that most web articles use the same text for the heading as Firefox does for the title. However it happens, I find that when I double click some text in Firefox and then Ctrl+F12, the note title in CintaNotes is basically the same as for the text that CintaNotes inserts (except the title usually has ' - Firefox' on the end of it).

Probably that's because you double-click on the title of the article? But you can select any other text line.

Yes, when I clip text (mostly I use the edit-->new function, clipping is used relatively rarely here), I usually double click the article title and then hit ctrl+f12. I guess that probably explains it.

Ok glad that we cleared that out. So I guess the suggestion stays as "if clipped note is just one line, and "use first line as title" is set, then don't duplicate this line in the note's text", without including the "Application title" option?

Yes, I think I can work with that. I changed to 'first line', and the only disadvantage I notice is that if you have no text selected when you hit Ctrl+F12, the note is blank (with 'application title', the note has a title).

I think I explained it here somewhere recently. If you have nothing selected, nothing is copied to clipboard, and CN can't get any information out of it.

I've added your suggestion to the roadmap, you can vote for it here:
