[Managing] Make full tag hierarchy optionally visible

Postby RSchiaffino » Fri Jun 13, 2014 6:32 pm

As regards the display of the tab hierarchy in the notes, I preferred the way it was done until v. 2.4 - i.e., with display of the full tab hierarchy. I understand that displaying only the last element of the tag has been changed as an "improvement" requested by several users, but for me it certainly is not any kind of improvement (rather the reverse).

However, since I know that this improvement was requested by other users, I'm not asking that it be taken away, but I would very much prefer if it were possible for us users to choose what to display.

It could be just a simple option (maybe as simple as a menu item: options>tag>display full tag hierarchy).

I've described in another thread of the forum why in my opinion the full tag hierarchy is a much better option. The long and short of it is that if you make use of longish tag hierarchies, displaying only the last element is akin to displaying the least significant digit only in a number.

If my tag hierarchy is Project_N1/Questions/Asked, displaying only "Asked" (as CN currently does) is akin as displaying 79 when the actual number I write is 215.79.

Riccardo,
as I understand that this issue is very important to you, and it happens also to be quite easy to implement, I'm glad to say that
I already might have a workable solution.

Please try this version: http://cintanotes.com/files/beta/CintaN ... _Beta4.zip

Go to Options/Notes List and check "Always display full tag names", and please let me know if the result is satisfying!
Thanks!

Note to everyone: 2.6.2 probably won't be a real version. Currently we are aiming directly at 2.7.

Hi Alex

This works great - thanks! I also find it useful since I sometimes forget if I have an individual tag or as part of a hierarchy. While I can hover over the tag in the note to get the path, this is much more convenient.

Ok, great! Glad that I could help. Probably this will be useful for other users as well. We'll include this in 2.7 then.

Probably in future we'll also add an option in the tag properties for fine control of which tags can be hidden, and which shouldn't.
