minimize on F7/Shift+F7

Postby Thomas Lohrum » Thu Aug 18, 2016 11:38 am

Hi Alex,

just as with the "app.mainframe.minimizeonenter = 1" setting i'd like to add a setting that is used when F7 or Shift+F7 is pressed from within the notes list. For example i use CN as a bookmark list. When i open links in the browser i want CN to hide automatically.

Hi Alex,

what do you think about the suggestion?

Hi Thomas,

I generally agree that this would be a good idea, however I wonder if it would be worthwhile to make it more general,
for example adding an option to minimize to tray whenever CN loses focus. What do you think?

What do i think? This is an excellent suggestion. I expect the main window to be out of my way in even more use cases :) Minimizing it comes with no cost, as there is a global shortcut to bring it back easily, at any time.

It will replace the minimize on enter feature, that will no longer be required?

I guess you have plans to add it as a setting in the UI?

Yes, IIRC this feature was requested multiple times.. here it is: http://roadmap.cintanotes.com/topics/60 ... ing-focus/

So you're not the only one who is going to benefit from it ;)

Thomas, regret to say that we were not planning it. Our financial situation is currently not good at all, and we desperately need to think of something to improve things. This means prioritizing features that can get CN into new markets, for example.

Hi Alex,

i'm sad to hear business is not running as required. After all the effort you put into this project i wish to you the best to come up with an idea, that will improve your income.

Some thoughts:
  • on promise sync server for people with different devices who don't want to use cloud syncing
  • workgroup server to support companies as customers
  • task management was required by many people in the past including myself
  • features that will result in monthly income rather than one year license fees

Thanks for your support, Thomas, for the ideas!
Actually the first two are exactly what we are thinking at the moment.
I already know of several small organizations that use CN for sharing information.
Adding ability to sync using own WebDav server and multi-user support should
allow us to release "CintaNotes for Teams" as a separate product.

Task management is simply too broad a thing. Everyone has own unique requirements here.
We still have alarms/reminders on a todo list, but that will probably be it.

Switching to a subscription model would require us to turn CN from application to a service.
If we take the "alternative to cloud" approach, the pricing model will start to contradict the
marketing model. I'm not sure :)

Huge thanks once again

Hi Alex,

rather than taking the big approach (http://roadmap.cintanotes.com/topics/606-option-to-auto-minimize-to-tray-on-losing-focus/) i want to step back and ask for my original request. That is minimizing CintaNotes on F7/Shift+F7. My point is, that not only the main window is closing automatically. More important is the side effect that when opening CintaNotes again by pressing the global shortcut the search box has focus and pressing any key will clear it. I use this feature a lot for i use CintaNotes as an app-starter.

Thanks!

Hi Thomas,

Sorry for being thick, but I didn't quite understand why a more general approach with "minimize on lose focus" is less preferable?

The general approach is more preferable. I agree. It appears though, as it takes more resources to implement. Adding a new option similar to the already existing switch "app.mainframe.minimizeonenter " seems easier to implement.

This rarely happens, but in this case both options require approximately same effort.
I think that "Minimize on losing focus" doesn't really make sense for editor windows, only for main window - it that correct?

Yes, that is correct :)
