[clipboard] Source metadata

Postby Midas » Fri Aug 28, 2009 1:04 pm

I know this overlaps previous requests -- most notably this recent one: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=138 -- but I had no knowledge of the following feature, and I think it needs reporting...

I have added it to my todo list (this doesn't mean that other couldn't create a plugin for this).

Internet Explorer and Firefox add this information to the clipboard data automatically (on Windows at least).

So, I'm posting a request for a similar feature for CintaNotes. TIA,

Do you have a specific kind of metadata in mind Midas?

One day I was trying to pinpoint some problems I had with the clipboard (problems unrelated to CintaNotes) and I used some "raw" clipboard viewers, so I know there's a little bit of information on the clipboard especially if we copy from a browser but we already have a timestamp and a source URL, besides extracting links as requested in the other topic I can't think something else to grab from the clipboard at the moment :)

You're probably right, ale.

I was imagining that info wasn't exactly coincident with what CN grabs, 'cause if it is, there's no point in what I said. What I mostly wanted was URL detection, but I guess that'll remain just another pipe dream -- at least for the free version...

Thanks for making this clearer.

EDIT: Can you point me to a good free raw clipboard tool? TIA,

Hello Midas, I can't really say wich is the best tool because I had a limited use but I have all these in a folder: CLCL, ClipSpy (also on Softpedia to avoid registration on Codeproject), ClipSpy+ (this one wants .NET framework) and finally this one.

I would try CLCL and ClipSpy and I would have them both open at the same time to cross reference the data :)

Haven't much tested the others mentioned (thanks...), yet, but so far I liked that one (Clipview), which although somewhat outdated, does the batter part of the job.

Here's a screenshot of it -- after some reshack magic...:

Midas, sorry that I kinda missed this topic.

Please rest assured that CN makes good use of the metadata that can be found in the clipboard. Specifically the page URL is taken from there if available. Unfortunately not all browsers put it in there, most notably Opera, so CN has to resort to some keypress-emulation hacks.
