[Files] Database on the internet

Is there a way to store the notes-database on the internet??

I use several computers, at work, home... It would be cool if I could open the same notes from every computer. This could be done by placing the file on an internetserver (perhaps on my own domain?)

Not a necessary option (I carry the file around on a memorystick now), but nice nonetheless.

It might become more important if you work with more people on one file. A projectteam or something. But I don't think many people use CintaNotes in a team???

If all your PCs have internet access, the most convenient way is to get yourself
a free DropBox (http://www.getdropbox.com) and put CintaNotes folder in there.
This will create a folder that is automatically synchronized on all your PCs,
and will take care of the notes database synchronization.
Since version 10.3, you even don't have to exit CintaNotes on one computer to be able
to use it on another.
(But it's best to put the backup folder outside because of file version conflicts.
See CN help or readme.txt for details on how to specify an external backup location
via editing cintanotes.settings file).

Dropbox may be ok sometimes, but it won't work thorough all proxys.

Hm, the developers claim that it works just fine through HTTP(S) proxies.

+1 for accessing files/databases in the net.

perhaps in addition with a simple php user interface?
I'd like to program a small script if I would know the conventions of the dat-file.

Since not all users would want it, I think it will be best to implement is as an optional extension to CN.
As for the db format, it will be changed as I migrate CN to SQLite, so don't bother yet)

Is there any way to refresh notes in CN? I tried DropBox but if I update the note file on both computers when CN is open on both, it only keeps the notes from one session. When I close them both and reopen I get the notes that were saved but lose the others. If I could refresh (without closing and reopening) then I think it would be fine.

I also tried using a USB stick connected to my router and that works fine on one of my computers (all are running Windows 7) but it doesn't open on one of them (I haven't tried my laptop) off the network drive. There's also the annoying "publisher can't be verified" warning message when running it off the network.

The DropBox seems like it would work great if I could get the refresh thing figured out, although it seems like there could be a big danger of losing notes that way.

Hello Guest,

thanks for bringing this up. The notebook refresh issue has already been solved, but it seems
that there's been a regression on this. I'm now working on a more reliable approach to keep your notes safe in a DropBox folder. It will be released in the next version.

Is there any timeline on the next version when this will be fixed?

Presumably first or second week of December. The 1.0 version is running late, so I'll probably make a special Beta M10.6 version just for that.

I'm not an expert on this but the DropBox forum says - Some corporate networks are behind HTTP proxy servers that use NTLM authentication. Dropbox currently doesn't support this kind of proxy authentication. However, some users have reported some success using an intermediate proxy, such as NTLMAPS or cntlm, to get Dropbox running on their network.

I couldn't get this to work. I had the DAT file in Dropbox and two PCs accessing it. I added notes on both PCs, but each PC only saw its 'own' notes. After shutdown CN and restart some notes were lost. What's the guidance for this? Nod

Hello Nod,

I guess there's little point debugging this now, because it is easier to just wait till March 15 when 1.0 comes out, there won't be such problems.
