modification date and unmodified note

The modification date get's updated when you open and close the note using the ESC-key - without changing the note. Is this a bug or WAD? Sure there is a nice effect of having last read notes to turn to the top of the search list. However, i was surprised. It is an unexpected behaviour to me. Thus i consider this a bug.

Update: After having this behaviour for a while it is beginning to bug me. It is messing up my notes list. A workaround is to click the button 'cancel' with the mouse. Too bad there is no hotkey for canceling.

ESC should save the note only if it has been changed.
Are you sure the note hasn't been changed in any way?
Adding an extra space or modifying text formatting are considered as well.

Yes. I am sure. I open the note. I immediately press ESC. The note now appears on top of the search list.

Hmmm.. really weird, doesn't happen for me. I suppose you are running 1.5.4. Does it happen for all notes or just the ones that have some text formatting?

OK I think I have it. This can happen one time per note only, and only for notes having a URL in the text. Is that it?

Alex,

i have just come to the same conclusion. A link (URL) inside the text will produce the bug. That is, why it did not hit me earlier. However it will happen over and over again. Interesting we both detect the bug the same time independently :)

I use links inside the text rather than using the separate link field. The link field can easily get out of sight, whereas an URL inside the text catches my eyes right away. Also many times i have multiple links inside the text and add a title to each link. Consider it a link collection, e.g. after doing a research on specific task. To me the link field could even be dropped. But that is only my personal opinion :)

So you are saying that the same note can go up twice?
This is not the case with me.

I got it! This happens when links are styled. Do you have any text formatting on your links?

I have "Options\Editor\Highlight Links" activated. No other formatting is applied to the links.

Thomas, could you please export to XML a note with a link that keeps going to top after you open it and press Ctrl+Enter, and send to me? Would be a huge help. Thanks in advance!

I've also registered the bug on the roadmap: http://roadmap.cintanotes.com/topic/93308-/

Alex,

I was able to reproduce the bug with the following simple steps:
Create a new note
Enter 'test' as the title
Enter 'www.abc.de' as the text
Press ESC

I reproduce the bug by opening and closing using the ESC key!!! You mention Ctrl+Enter, but i test using ESC!

I can still post you an xml entry. To which adress?

Still can't reproduce on 1.5.4 - only if the link is styled itself..
Please send the XML to feedback@cintanotes.com. A settings file might help as well. Thanks!

Thanks, Thomas!
I think I've fixed the bug. Please try the attached executable.
A couple of other bugs are fixed there as well.

No problem. I like supporting CN for it is an awesome tool with great support and development constantly progressing forward. :D Looking forward to the next release! Btw, what caused the bug, just out of curiousity?
