Hi,
I like your program and have been using it for over a year.
Today is 3/28/12.
I was running ver 1.1 and today upgraded to your newer latest version which I downloaded and ran. (btw, my computer kept telling my that your software represents a threat, which I found strange as I downloaded from your website. I guess you need to get some certification to that that notice doesn't arise... might scare new users.
Opened Cinta Notes and it says that my notebook is empty.
What happened to all my notes in my notebook?
Why didn't the installation retain them?
And most importantly, how to I get them back, into the latest cintanote now running on my pc. (windows ver 7, home edition)
Thanks.
Joe

Re: my notes disappeared when upgrading to newer version
Hi Joe,
thanks for writing!
Please tell, where was your old CN 1.1 installation folder, and where did you install the new version into? Thanks!

Re: my notes disappeared when upgrading to newer version
Hi Alex,
I assumed that like most upgrade installations, the newer version of the program would install directly into the same folder that the older version was in... so I never checked before the upgrade.
Just went now to look at my program file tree, and I only see one cintanote folder, so I am assuming that my assumption was correct.
Now what?
Thanks and please advise.
Joe

Re: my notes disappeared when upgrading to newer version
I see. Could you please tell me:
1) Which version of Windows do you have
2) When installing CintaNotes, have you modified the default installation path?
3) What is the contents of the "Program Files\CintaNotes" folder?
4) What is the contents of the %APPDATA%\CintaNotes folder?
Thanks!

Re: my notes disappeared when upgrading to newer version
Hi Alex,
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.
Regarding your questions:
===============================================
1) Which version of Windows do you have
windows 7, home version.
2) When installing CintaNotes, have you modified the default installation path?
No I did not.
3) What is the contents of the "Program Files\CintaNotes" folder?
There is a folder called help
There is a folder called lang
Then a file called cintanotes with the cintanote blue icon showing
Then a file called install.settings
Then a file called readme
Then a file called unins000
Then another filed unins000
Re the unins files the first one has an icon before the file name. when i put my cursor over it, it says gom media file .dat. The second one says setup/uninstall file version 51.1052.0.0, Date created 3/28/2012, File size 1.12 MB.
4) What is the contents of the %APPDATA%\CintaNotes folder?
There is no CintaNotes folder there in the AppData folder.
===============================================
Hope this helps. Thanks again.

Re: my notes disappeared when upgrading to newer version
Thanks for the info!
Please note that %APPDATA% is not the same as AppData.
Usually %APPDATA% maps to C:\USERS\<your login name>\AppData\Roaming
So I need you to check if there exists the C:\USERS\<your login name>\AppData\Roaming\CintaNotes folder, and what's in it.

Ok, that's for directing me there...
In that folder there is the following:
1) A folder called backup
2) a file called cintanotes (when I put my cursor over it is says database file)
3) a file called cintanotes.settings
That's it.

That file has an extension of '.db'. It contains your notes.Guest wrote:2) a file called cintanotes (when I put my cursor over it is says database file)

Re: my notes disappeared when upgrading to newer version
Yes, the .db file is the notes database.
If you direct CintaNotes to this file using the File/Notebook dialog (or File/Open in CN 1.6), you should be able to see your notes.
Please tell if this helped.

Re: my notes disappeared when upgrading to newer version
Alex, before directing, I'm confused.
Isn't the new cintanote version which I am already running and have saved new notes to, using that .db file, or is it using another .db file.
Secondly, if I direct cintanotes to go to the .db file you suggested above, well then, what is going to happen to the new notes I saved in the past ten days using the new updated version.
Please advise.
thanks.

Re: my notes disappeared when upgrading to newer version
oh, and my last question is, is there a way to merget the two db files, the old one and the newer one?
and, why wasn't the program doing that in the installation upgrade? Is that a bug, or what?
and, is there an way to make the program update automatically to new versions like other programs do?
thanks.

Re: my notes disappeared when upgrading to newer version
Hi Jo,
Yes, the new Cintanote version is using the file C:\USERS\<your login name>\AppData\Roaming\CintaNotes\CintaNotes.db
The answer lies in your next question.
Yes. You can export from one db-file and import to the other. I'm not sure though, which features are available in the free version.
No, not yet. It's on the roadmap though. You can vote for it here http://roadmap.cintanotes.com/topic/320 ... -versions/

Joe wrote:Isn't the new cintanote version which I am already running and have saved new notes to, using that .db file, or is it using another .db file.
We don't know that. It is either the new file which somehow overwrote your old file, or it is the old file.
Joe wrote:Secondly, if I direct cintanotes to go to the .db file you suggested above, well then, what is going to happen to the new notes I saved in the past ten days using the new updated version.
Nothing. Opening and closing files doesn't change them in any way.
Here is what I suggest doing:
1) Run a global search on your harddrive for all files named "cintanotes*.db"
2) Copy all files found into a separate directory (rename them to avoid name collisions)
3) Uninstall CintaNotes
4) Download and install the newest version 1.6.1
5) Go to File/Open menu and open all the .db files one-by-one.
6) Merge the files into one using the File/Import command
Guest wrote:is there a way to merget the two db files, the old one and the newer one?
Yes, the File/Import command can be used to merge a .db file into the currently opened.
Guest wrote:why wasn't the program doing that in the installation upgrade? Is that a bug, or what?
It should have, and is probably a bug. The reason remain unclear unless you can provide more information. You used to have a quite old version 1.1, I think this might be the reason why this bug doesn't manifest itself often enough.
Guest wrote:is there an way to make the program update automatically to new versions like other programs do
Not yet, but we are already working on it.
