I normally don't need to sort notes, and keep them sorted by date created and in reverse order, so to always have the most recent notes first (blog style).
However, I recently used CN to take note of all the sessions I wanted to attend at a conference I'm going to.
To do that, I tagged the notes (e.g., "ATA_53_Conference/Calendar/01-Thursday_Morning", "ATA_53_Conference/Calendar/02-Thursday_Afternoon", etc.) and also, intending to help me prioritize the presentations I wanted to attend, by assigning to them titles with unique numbering at the end (e.g, "ATA 53 Conference 02.01", "ATA 53 Conference 02.02", etc.).
I then changed the sorting order to "Sort By Title", and deselected "Reverse order".
My purpose was to then export my entire calendar for the conference to an html file.
I found two problems:
1) In some instances (not all, just a few), the titles did not sort properly, so I had, for example "ATA 53 Conference 07.01.02", followed by "ATA 53 Conference 02.01", "ATA 53 Conference 02.02" etc.) 2) The sorting order was inconsistent between tag level: that is, if I looked at the tag level "ATA_53_Conference/Calendar/" I could see all notes, but they were not in the same order as they were within each of the sublevels.
I finally had to use manual sort in order to have everything sorted as I needed it - frankly, it was a pain manually sorting about 50 notes.
I'm attaching an export of this collection of notes, if you need to play with it to see if it happens on other computers.
My computer: Windows 7 Professional 64 bit
CN 1.8.2

Re: Problem with sorting (possibly related to tags)
Hi,
I've downloaded, loaded the .db file and tried to reproduce the issues.
Here's what I've noticed:
1) When sorted by title, "ATA 53 Coference 07.01.02" comes before "ATA 53 Conference 02.01" because of a typo: please notice the lack of "n" in the word "conference".
2) Couldn't reproduce this, can you give me an example please?
Thanks!

Hi Alex
1) (sorry for wasting your time)
2) Will do, as soon as I have a moment to reorganize my notes

As regards the sorting problems, I don't see them anymore... it was probably just due to typos in the titles
