[Ann] CintaNotes 3.0 Final

Postby CintaNotes Developer » Mon Oct 05, 2015 12:54 pm

Hi,

Well it's time! We are finally ready to release version 3.0 with file and image attachments.
Huge thanks to all who took time to try out the betas and provided feedback.

We did the best testing we could, but still some bugs are possible, so please don't forget
to backup your data - just in case!

Hope you'll enjoy the new release. And if you didn't follow the beta threads - please don't be
taken aback by the versioning. The new UI is still coming, but in V4.0 instead of V3.0.

Oct 5, 2015 - Version 3.0

In this version:

Features:
  • File and image attachments in notes.
  • Tracking of attachment viewing and editing: temp files are automatically removed, warning upon opening attachments from encrypted notebooks.
  • Synchronization of attachments (100MB limit)
  • Added used server space indicator to the File/Synchronization window.

Fixes:
  • Editor: links to files in note text didn't always open
  • Wrong tag counts after batch tagging
  • Simplenote sync: fixed possible creation of note duplicates
  • Wrong tag counts after renaming hierarchical tags
  • Wrong notes list state after deleting the last note having selected tag
  • Notebook encryption: CN prompted for a password on manual note saving
  • Fixed possible crash after waking up from sleep
  • Clipping: note is not tagged with active tags if current section is not inbox
  • Notes list: wrong tab distance rendering
  • Tray icon was not recreated after Explorer restart if CN was started minimized
  • Fix crash possible when saving notes manually and then quickly closing the edtitor
  • Recycle bin: note preview didn't render formatting
  • Regression: F3 search in editor didn't work for multi-term searches
  • Reduce paint flicker on startup

Download:
Installable: CintaNotes_3_0_Setup.exe
Portable: CintaNotes_3_0.zip

I'm really glad to see this - yes, the last couple of Beta's were very stable, but there is a fuzzy feeling of 'secureness' when you see the new feature (attachments I mean) with "stable" against its name :)

Minor problem with v3.0. Have debug logging disabled, but this log continues to be generated:

Thanks! I didn't discover the .log file until well after it was generated, so I have no idea what I did to generate the error (which is why there was no detail in my post on what I was doing at the time!). The attachments feature is working fine for me so far, am slowly adding attachments to the records in my DB's, and haven't noticed any issues with it thus far :)

Clicking on links to files generates these logs.
Great that attachments are working great for you!

I'm prompted for a password sometimes when I change my screen resolution, even when CN is only in the systray? But not always...
Not that I do it that often, only for some specific kind of work. Normally I try to spare my eyes...

I noticed the tooltip-issue when hovering filenames is gone now in this version?
I haven't been using the attachment feature extensively as of yet, but I'm having some purposes in mind I'm planning to use it for. Being able to add files makes CN a much more versatile tool than it already was. Thank you for your hard work!

You said a UI redesign is forthcoming in 4.0
In this new design of mine, we will all have clipping, attachments, and inline views all at the same time.
I am already done with my design and I only have to neatly redraw the design bigger so it is visible, and scan it
and upload it.
Should I open a new thread. Cintanotes 4.0.
[UI Design] Cintanotes 4.0.
Can the moderator open an appropriately named thread and point us all to that.

Yes, we are aware of this kind of bugs. The thing is, we had the choice: open notebook by default and forbid notebook access that we know requires password, or vice versa: close notebook by default, and only allow access that we are sure doesn't require password.

We chose the latter approach, since we considered it to be safer. But there are a few places that we missed, and the password prompt pops up where it shouldn't.

Soon we'll roll out a version with special diagnostics which would log which code path lead to the password prompt.

Yes, forgot to mention it in the release notes. I've found the problem and fixed it.

Thanks, and hope that the feature will live up to your expectations! Please report any problems found, we'll do our best to fix them asap.

Hi Marun,
do I understand correctly: you want to suggest a UI design sketch for us?
