[Editing] Not Updating Modified Time when no Changes Made

Postby usbpoweredfridge » Wed Nov 25, 2015 12:50 pm

At the moment, if you open a note - to view it without making any changes - you have two options to close it. Click 'ok' - note is closed, but modified time of the note is changed to the current time, even though you made no changes. Click 'cancel' - note is closed, doesn't change the modified date, but goes against many years of Windows conventions - ie, clicking 'ok' to close a window.

Would it be possible for CN to detect that you have made no changes to the note, and not change the modified date when you click 'ok' to close the note?

Hmm, but I can't reproduce this.
When I edit a note, and click "OK" without changing anything, the modified date is not updated.
Can I have your settings file please?

I also couldn't replicate this in 3.1 Beta 2. If I make no changes and just hit OK, Properties still shows the original modified date.

I did notice though that Properties shows the date in dd.mm.yyyy format, whereas I usually have my preferences set to mm/dd/yyyy. Not a big deal though, as I rarely need to look at Properties.

Gunars, thanks for your input!

About date format: yes, this is a bug, added to todo list.

Chris, can you reproduce the problem? If yes, is the problem reproducible on a new notebook?
Thanks!

Well, this is embarrassing. I created the thread because I had an instance of this recently (in the last 2 weeks - not sure what version I was using, it would have been either 3.0 stable or 3.1 Beta 1 I guess). I didn't test with 3.1 Beta 2 before I posted though, because I believed this had been in CN for a long time, and the changelog didn't mention anything about it - so I assumed that it was still a problem. Actually testing it now - I can't reproduce it.

I suppose I could have been mistaken about the previous instance of it happening, but I was pretty sure that I had made no changes to that note 2 weeks ago, and the modified date on it was most certainly changed (I can see the date on it now, 13 November). So I don't know what happened - but I can't reproduce it now, so I guess it isn't a problem after all.

It can also depend on the note you're editing. One of the old versions didn't trim trailing spaces from the Link field, and newer versions do that.
This can be the reason CN considered the note changed.
