auto taging attachments

Postby yogi » Wed Feb 03, 2016 8:54 pm

Hi,
the attachments turn out to be very useful indeed. I have over 2000 notes and some notes with attachment. How to find them?
I know there is a search function, but it would be very helpful to see all the notes altogether.
My suggestion is that CN generates automatically a tag when a file is attached. May be something like "@" or "attachment". In this way by selecting the tag I get the whole list of notes with attachment.

Thanks
Yogi

In the meantime you can search on attachments and search for a dot (.) and apply the tag yourself ;)
For extensionless files must use a|b|c|d|e|f|0|1|2..., because '-.' appears not to work

Hi yogi,

Thanks for your request, I admit that simply finding notes with attachments is not very straightforward in CN.
We'll definitelly address this problem when we update the CN's UI.
In the meanwhile please use the workaround which date suggested.

Hi Date and Alex,
thanks for your thoughts. Searching for a "." works if there is a dot. I just attached the file "test" which worked. But you cannat find it, there is no dot.
Alex, my suggestion would not need any change of the userinterface. Autotagging would be hidden, just may be with an option to switch it off, or to change the tag i.e. "@" or "autotag" or what ever one likes.

Regards
Yogi

I'm not a huge fan of adding more and more hidden features. They take almost the same amount of work as the "normal" ones, but then start taking their toll at user support.

Let's do it this way:
- In CintaNotes 4.0, we'll provide a nice GUI of filtering out notes having no attachments (or, which is the same, displaying only note with attachments)
- In the meanwhile, I'll add the ability to use wildcard symbols "*" and "?" when looking for attachments. Then simply entering an asterisk would be enough to find all notes with attachments. How does it sound?

Yes, very good, it serves the purpose.

BTW also in the last version 3.1.2 we've fixed the problem with "-." not finding anything.

So as a workaround, you can use the following search string to find all notes with attachments:
-.|.
