I'm not happy with this upgrade. CN now shudders and jumps about whenever I move it anywhere close to the edge of the screen. Could this feature perhaps be made optional? For me at least, it represents a step backward.

P.S. Just reread the announcement, and I see that there is indeed a way to turn off this feature, but it evidently involves going into the cintanote.settings file. I'm only mildly nerdy and would not be comfortable modifying a file like that. If you want CintaNotes to appeal to a broader group of users, surely you could make this choice simply a matter of going into the "options" menu.

Cintanotes.Settings is most common text file. It's easy and not scary at all. One time. Trust me! :-)

Bill has a point here, first of all you need to find the settings file, and it is in a different place for portable and installed. In SumatraPDF this is solved with a menu option 'more options' that opens such a file with the default text editor.
Then you need to find the option, if you have many saved states for search and window positions, the file can be a few hundred lines.
And when you insert something that is not recognized, or modify the font names for example, it is easy to mess up.

But it shouldn't shudder and jump, just stick to the edge?

Even Windows Search can easily cope with this task. In any text editor, even in Notepad, there is a search. I do not see any problems here ....

date, thanks for the moral support. I'm a heavy user of computers, and I have modified files like this very occasionally in the past, but the point I was making is that no software should make such demands: just put it in the options menu!

I'll be curious to hear whether anyone else encounters the problem I described: on my laptop (Surface Pro 4, Windows 10) CintaNotes begins to shudder violently when I move it near the left, top, or right edge of the screen (but not the bottom).

It should work like this https://bucket.mlcdn.com/a/269/269651/i ... ca8c2b.gif , very stable movements.

Have a wireless mouse perhaps?

CN does eventually attach to the edge of the screen; the jiggling takes place just before that, when it's about a half inch from the edge.

Yes, I do use a wireless mouse. Could that be the culprit?

That's how it works for me, even with a wireless mouse.

I believe Alex's plans for the new UI include redesigning how options/preferences are set in the UI.

I always thought the ability to actually find things with Windows Search was deprecated since after XP ;)

If you have access to another mouse, or have spare batteries, you could try to swap to be sure. How you describe the behavior, it is the first thing I think of. But it could be many other things as well.

I mentioned Windows Search and Notepad only as an example, as they are on any PC with Windows and will perfectly cope with the search and editing of a text file. Of course, I do not use these tools in my daily work. To do this, there are much more convenient and powerful tools, for example Everything and Ultraedit ;)

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm on the road at the moment, but as soon as possible I will try using my spare mouse.

Hello Bill,

This certainly sounds like a bug to me, this is not in the options menu simply because there should be no valid reason to disable this behavior (and the option in the settings file is left exactly for the case for emergency situations like yours).

Could you please tell a bit more about your configuration? Exact Windows version, Aero setting, DPI settings, multi-monitor config - all that. Thanks!

Hallo,
I really love cintanotes. Nevertheless this new docking feature does not work well (two monitor system). Actually I prefer to have some small space between the edge of the screen and the programm window. This is now impossible to achive. So I looked in the options. Nothing there. Editing the the settings files is not the nicest thing to do.
Its a thing of personal taste. Certainly there are many users who like this new feature, but for the "conservativ" users there should be an comfortable possibility to opt out.
What I still miss in the GUI: The colors of the section bar change when changing the section. But this is not easy to see. Please! make the textheading of the current section BOLD. Then one can easily see which section is active.

Kind regards

Hallo Alex,
in the cintanotes.settings file I do not find the entries:
clipping.title.strip.program.list
clipping.title.strip.program.enabled

Any concrete bugs?

Well editing the settings file is not nice, I agree, but certainly not impossible.

Its a thing of personal taste. Certainly there are many users who like this new feature, but for the "conservativ" users there should be an comfortable possibility to opt out.

Allright, allright. You got me convinced. I'll add the option to the GUI in 3.9.1.

What I still miss in the GUI: The colors of the section bar change when changing the section. But this is not easy to see. Please! make the textheading of the current section BOLD. Then one can easily see which section is active.

This is already planned for the new UI (not exactly the bold font, but making active section more prominent). There's little sense to change this GUI if it's going to be overhauled soon anyway.

Hi Alex,

the new docking feature has its problems. With Win7 it is not as bad as with Win10, though. The major problem to me is that, sometimes a window just sticks to the top or the bottom of the screen. It takes several attempts to be able to move it again. Also with Win10 there is a problem that the mouse cursor does not stick to the windows title bar. When you move a window around the mouse cursor is just somewhere else.

Hi Thomas,

I also have Win 10 but sadly I can't reproduce any of that behavior (except the mouse cursor part).
I suspect this could be DPI-related, since snap distance depends on system metrics SM_CXDRAG, which is in its turn dpi-dependent.
Probably you have a high DPI setting?

About mouse cursor: I tried to move it together with the window, but this lead to very undesirable effects, because users are not expecting the cursor to jump. Notice that if you don't let go off the left button, you can continue to move the window even though the cursor is no more in the title area.
