[Managing][Clipping] Want Keystroke to go to LAST NOTE ENTERED ...

Postby Hef_WannaBe » Wed Mar 27, 2019 9:49 am

I want a way to go to last note entered. Sometimes, as I am typing, I will make a note. Great.

But -- if it is not 5 minutes later -- DAMNED, I'll want to go back and add a comment on it. But,
SHOOT -- I have to search it out and waste a few moments.

Why not let us have a keystroke to cycle through last notes entered? Like
CONTROL + ALT + LEFT / RIGHT CURSORS ??? Or, let us set what it is.

Even better, let us have a POPUP WINDOW that will show us the Entry order of what we have
typed, then I could jump to it quick. Best yet, let us POPUP that Entry-Order-Window where
we could jump right there and make the changes.

Doesn't seem like I know what talking about. But, you get 500 notes. Then, it's a FREAKING JOB
to go and find the EXACT NOTE that you need. Must be a better way ...

Thanks ...

Thanks for the suggestion!

As it happens, something like this already exists on the roadmap - please take a look!

Okay, I looked. I think it is an awesome need that many people have, especially if they
switch to CN. Then, they realize that they need it. Casual-Users: NO; your Core-Audience: YES.

So, also in my honest opinion & thoughts (as I develop too), kind-of move away from the
Voting. Just because people don't vote, doesn't mean they don't want it or need it. Just
lot of people don't have time to come on these Forums and monkey-with writing down
their ideas. I'd read the Ideas / Commentaries and centralize those topics into new
feature sets. And, people also can't find the topic (only the Developer can because
they have the time & read all of the Forum) -- like me ... I don't have time to look through
all the postings to attach my idea to a topic. I would and willing to, but I lose billable
time by not cranking crap out. So I just jot and go on.

But, I'm a Big Fan and hope you include those features in days / weeks ahead. It'd
really help me and many more poeple (probablY) be more productive with CN.

Thanks.

I understand very well what you mean.
However, we now are in a different situation.
Basically, we now have two simultaneous branches of development, CN3 and CN4.
CN4 is the version with the new UI based on Qt framework. It is a major rewrite of
about 60% of the code and it is going way slower than we have anticipated.
This is why we try to prioritize working on CN4 to release it sooner and to have
just one dev branch again. Unfortunately this means that we have to limit ourselves
to only bugfixes for the CN3 branch.

Now, about the voting. It's not perfect, but it at least correlates a bit with what the
people need. You haven't suggested any good alternative except go and develop all the features
that are being suggested by the most active forum members. This is a sure way to get
a Frankenstein app that only a handful of people can use and understand. This will mean
the app won't be getting more popular and the money flow will be not enough to even cover
the costs. Product management is more about saying "no" than about saying "yes".
Even adding a simple dialog with date format settings can mean the effort of maintaining it
(and it's translations and documentation) for the rest of app's life. So we have to be very choosy,
making sure that everything that is done will be used and appreciated by more than 5% of CN users.

Alex,
Thanks for clarifying and the dialogue. Helps me to understand Developers of CN's viewpoints. I develop
multiple apps, but I don't have to worry about translation. Yes, doc-ing it, maintaining it, and training it.
Just I can see how published docs in different languages would add more work. I didn't think of that.

Okay, I'll get back to my day.

Thanks

Alex, I've been following this conversation with interest. Sometimes I am annoyed by the slow development of CintaNotes, but then I remind myself that it is a brilliant piece of software, and on the whole I'd rather that you were too cautious than too impetuous in making changes. Like many others on this forum, I'm of course extremely eager to use version 4, but I'm confident that when it finally appears, it's sure to be a thoughtful, reliable upgrade.

I fully agree with Bill's statements. I like the simplicity and elegance of CN, where features are integral to the whole, not tacked on just because they can be.

As for version 4, I'm looking forward to new functionality like customizable keys, improved options, etc. I'm just hesitant about the visual aspects. I have no problem with the way CN looks now, but I really don't care for flat design UIs (Material Design, Fluent Design, Metro). I find them visually bland and ergonomically bad. But that's me - we'll see :-).

Thanks guys for your support and understanding!

As for the looks, it's hardly possible to please everyone. One thing is sure - the current UI looks dated,
this is not only my opinion, and it's not good for CN's promotion.

Therefore we migrate to a framework that would allow to change the style with ease, making it easy
to keep up with current UI fashion and be able to pay more attention to core features. Of course the
UI is not only about the look, here is the point where we get the chance to fix a few shortcomings of
current CN's design, such as options being scattered all over the menu, hard access to advanced
options, non-adaptive display of the notes list, etc.

I have to warn you that the first beta of CN4 is not exactly around the corner. But, slowly but steadily,
we will get there.

At the risk of repeating myself, I would just add that the one aspect of the CintaNotes UI that troubles me a lot is the white background of the notes. I would prefer a cream or pale yellow background, but really I could live with almost any color except white. Staring at a white screen for any length of time is hard on the eyes -- and possibly the brain.

No worries - I'm just the dinosaur in the disco :-)
