Re: Cintanotes 1.1 & Dropbox folder
Hello!
Backup folder shouldn't be synced with DropBox. The main notes cintanotes.db file should.
The recommended way is the following:
- cintanotes.db in some subfolder inside of "My Dropbox" folder;
- CintaNotes executable outside (e.g. in "C:\Apps\CintaNotes");
- edit cintanotes.settings parameter "notebook.file" to point to the .db file inside of DropBox (e.g. "notebook.file = C:\My Dropbox\CintaNotesData\cintanotes.db").
Replicate this setup on each PC. That's it!
Putting CintaNotes folder inside of DropBox folder is NOT recommended because:
- Backup files will constantly be "conflicted";
- you won't be able to have separate settings on different PCs.
If you don't care about independent settings (e.g. you use same fonts and screen resolution on each PC), the alternative way would be to put CN folder inside DropBox, but take the backup folder out using the "backup.folder" parameter.

Thank you.
I knew it was wrong to synchronize backup files. Now I'm syncing the cintanotes.db and it works great!

Re: Cintanotes 1.1 & Dropbox folder
If i understand this correctly, all i do is Ctrl x cintanotes.db then Ctrl v to Dropbox Folder and that's it?
Won't Cintanotes create another cintanotes.db in its' default installation path when creating new notes instead of newly manually transferred ?

Yo!
Now i'm trying to open the program and this is what i'm getting:
"SQ Liter Error 14" unable to open etc.
Here's how i"ve got the settings rigged:
notebook.file = C:\Users\user\My Documents\My Dropbox\CintaNotesData\cintanotes.db
Windows 7 is so much complicated for a non-geek like me.

CN can't find the file.
It seems that the path is wrong or you don't have access (in case you are not "user")

I'm the only user on this computer.
The only other one is called "Guest" but it does not have administrative rights.
I've tried to run CN as administrator to see if that would make a difference but it does not.

Goccha!
I cut off "CintaNotesData" part and i'm goin' yay!
Phew!
Would be easier for non-geeks like me, to be able to set default path via CN options...

So the "CintaNotesData" directory didn't exist?
Yes, you are right, I plan to make synchronization configuring more user-friendly

Re: Cintanotes 1.1 & Dropbox folder
Hum i had forgotten to transfer .db file over but there still is no part called "CintaNotesData".
Just the .db one that follows. It works so that's all that matters right?

Re: Cintanotes 1.1 & Dropbox folder
Great !
Is there a way to view Cintanotes DB/Notes online when sync with Dropbox ?
Would be great to generate an HTML view ? Or ask DropBox guys for a dedicated viewer ?

Re: Cintanotes 1.1 & Dropbox folder
Directly, no. But if the goal is to have access to your notes while being in, say, internet cafe, you can always quickly download portable CN from cintanotes.com and give it the cintanotes.db file downloaded from your DropBox account.
For online viewing, I've registered a feature request, you can vote for it here: http://cintanotes.userecho.com/feedback ... n-dropbox/

Re: Cintanotes 1.1 & Dropbox folder
There is the wish to for applications to read notes on iphone etc.
I think the first step should be to make it simple to read notes online. I am on the go and want to read notes in a café or on my whatever-phone.
The easiest to realize step would be to automate the export-to-a-text-file process. Database-backup with Dropbox is good.
If there was an option to automated the text-file-export I could read the text-file with my Dropbox access.
What do you think. For now I will just backup the Select-All-Text-File, every time when I feel like it.
Greetings!

Did notice problems with my Windows7 with regards to Evernote or Dropbox... people in their forums have had same issue.
The computer kind of "crashes" when sent to idle mode.

Re: Cintanotes 1.1 & Dropbox folder
Hi - I just joined and catching up. I too have the syncing issue. DropBox for file/folder sycning is perfect across 4 PC's - however just loaded / installed CintaNotes and syncing is not occurring.
Configuration currently is shown below for each PC that is XP (and the stated CintaNotes instructed location in the virtual store location for Win7 laptop ...)
For XP machines:
S:\Program Files\DropBox\cintanotes.db
S:\Program Files\cintanotes.settings
... where the notebook file is pointed here
"notebook.file = S:\PROGRAM FILES\DropBox\cintanotes.db"
No syncing across PC's ???? Any Suggestions would be much appreciated!

Sorry but I don't understand how does this relate to CintaNotes?

Hi boginbob,
please answer a couple of questions:
1) Is S:\PROGRAM FILES\DropBox your actual DropBox folder? Does its content get synchronized?
2) Have you changed anything except "notebook.file" parameters in the cintanotes.settings? Specifically, "notebook.disconnect.enabled" and "notebook.disconnect.timeout".
3) Does synching occur for just 2 PCs?
4) What does DropBox say about the files? Green checkmark or ever-rotating blue arrow-circle? Does it say that "Cannot sync cintanotes.db"?
Thanks
Alex
