Which clipping hot key have you chosen?

Postby CintaNotes Developer » Mon Jan 19, 2009 7:22 am

As I said, I've chosen Win+X because I don't have to take my right hand off the mouse. What about you? :)

I kept the default.

But I can't escape the feeling that sooner or later bad hotkey management is gonna rear its ugly head and strike my feeble system. I use a program launcher named Fast Launcher (http://www.dvasoft.com) and on an afterthought I went and checked the assigned hotkey -- luckily I had set one extra modifier, as it is Alt+Win+X. But I have other utilities with hotkeys that I keep loaded or that I load on demand. Any chance of some hand holding in this respect? (any straight forward advice will be welcome, too).

I use Win+C (for copy/clip). I like the ability to use the Win key - I can't usually remember those Ctrl+Alt+F? combinations. Good job!

I also noticed that CintaNotes no longer replaces the clipboard with whatever text that was being clipped. Hurray! But noticed a small issue though - if the clipboard holds something rather than text e.g. a screenshot, it gets lost. Not a big problem of course, but would be great if you can fix it in future versions.

Looking forward to testing the next release. :D

Yes, sure it will be fixed. Unfortunately not in the next version, but eventually it will)

Will have to wait till ~30 Jan, but if you really want you can peek at what's already done (not much) here : viewtopic.php?f=3&t=12&p=39#p39 ;)

Yes, hotkeys are a scarce resource)) But in fact, the worst thing that can happen is that one of the hot keys will stop working (unless one of the programs has a bug in it and failing to register hotkey will bring it to its knees. Yes, I'm talking about my program until the recent fix ;). If you really need this hotkey, you will be able to quickly find the offending app via simple exclusion method. If not.. why should you care? :)

Actually, that's a good idea for an application. It is possible to hook up the RegisterHotKey function from Windows API and make some statistics, but unfortunately this method will be useless against low-level keyboard hooks.

Sorry I wanted to add the "Other" option to the poll, and this has unexpectedly deleted all votes..
Please re-vote! Thanks.

I was a user from evernote, so I choose Win+A.:)
One-hand control is important I think.

I went with Ctrl+SHift+C. This is because I'm a lefty and I often use the Ctrl+C/V shortcuts for standard Copy-n-paste. With my pinky finger holding down the CTRL key and my index finger looming over the C key, it's convenient for me to also press SHIFT with my ring finger... -steve

I use Win + S for "Save" clip only because I have Win + C mapped to open Windows Explorer to the root of drive C

I was using the default until I read this thread and had a look through the poll options "Win+`" is great. Can use it one handed, with the other left on the mouse. Also, as I'm right handed, the left handed position of these keys allows easier access with my free hand.

And now I feel I've given this WAY too much though

I have now slightly changed my hot keys here, after realizing I very rarely go to the root of drive C. With the newly available option to show/hide and add notes, I am using Win + C to show / hide "CintaNotes" and Win + A to "add" a new note. Win + S is still used to clip.

Nice! Another convenient setting is: Win+` to clip, Win+1 to add, Ctrl+` to show/hide.

I think CTRL + Win + ALT is a great and easy option to choose. Especially followed by "x" , "c" or "v"

If you use ALT in your hotkey please be sure to use this executable, otherwise the clipping won't work reliably:
download/file.php?id=4
