[SOLVED] CintaNotes 1.5.6 permanently doing daily backup

Postby Bommi » Wed Mar 14, 2012 8:47 am

Since I upgraded to the latest version, CintaNotes is backing up nonstop.
Cinta is permanently doing a daily-backup.
A temporary file "cintanotes.daily.db-journal" is created.

As you can see in the filemanager snapshot, it takes 8! Minutes to complete a backup.
Once finished, it starts all over again.

As you can see in the filemonitor snapshot, Cinta did almost a million reads and writes to my harddisk in less than 30 minutes.
Does the Cinta-Developer have a deal with the harddisk-industry?  ;) ;)

De-selecting the backup-daily-option had no effect.
When I de-selected ALL backups, Cinta stopped backing up.

My OS is XP SP2

Re: Why is CintaNotes 1.5.6 permanently doing the daily back

Bommi, thanks for catching this! I confirm.

Please try out this version, this bug should be fixed there:

http://cintanotes.com/private/beta/CintaNotes_1_6_Beta1.zip
http://cintanotes.com/private/beta/CintaNotes_1_6_Beta1_Setup.exe

P.S. This is an 1.6 beta, so you can check out the already implemented commercial features, namely:
- Multiple notebook files support
- Export to HTML format
- Pasting notes into other apps on Ctrl+Enter
(Of course you are not required to do this: the basic license covers all functionality of version 1.5.6.)

To do that, you need to register using the following license. Just copy it to clipboard and open the Help/License dialog.
===CINTANOTES LICENSE===
Registration Name: CintaNotes Beta1 Tester (support@cintanotes.com)
Registration Key: HSUE9Y-BQK5AF-9GMLT3-VXVXCM-MELLKE-542XEK-JGWYWW-JLM7FN-R2TDPW-2QKTLU-TRMDG3

WARNING: If you installed CN into "Program Files", run it as administrator to register!

I've decided to release a hotfix version of CN to fix this and other highly critical problems.
In case you don't want to use the unstable 1.6 beta, version 1.5.7 fixes the problem with daily backup - please re-download CN from the homepage.

Thanks for your reply, Alex.

I'm looking forward trying out 1.6b tomorrow.

I do apologize for this 'harddisk-industry' thing in my post. It was meant to be funny, but at a second read it just sounds rude. I'm not a native speaker.

Cinta-Users with v.1.5.6 don't need to worry about the health of their hard disk. When streaming a video or downloading huge files the same number of reads and writes occur. So these neverending backups seem not to be an extraordinary 'wear & tear' of a harddisk.

G'night, Bommi

It's no problem at all, Bommi!
I'm very grateful to you for bringing this issue up, because having CN constantly write to the hard disk could be really harmful for, say, SSD owners. Thanks to your help the issue is now fixed.
