Search is slow

Postby WorkingStorage » Mon Apr 09, 2012 8:59 pm

I've got my search set to "Title and Text" and the find-as-you-type is very slow against a 34mb database. Lots of keyboard lag.

Any ideas?

Hi and thanks for the post!
Do you have "Search inside words" (or, in older versions of CN, "Exact search") turned on or off?

Search Inside Words is off
I tried exporting the db as xml and starting from a new, empty db and reimporting it
I tried running a sqlite vaccuum and reindex on it

When it's set to search "anywhere" it's very slow
When it's set to search "text and title," it's a little faster.

Do you have notes > 1 MB? They tend to slow the search down a lot.

Nah they're all mostly text, and small text fields. Not sure why it's lagging. Is there something I could use to trace it?

Well the quickest way to get to the roots of the problem would be for you to send me the .db file,
but I reckon that's not an option for privacy reasons ;) Still have to ask though ;)

Is the notes database located on your HDD or on a USB stick?
Is the search same slow when you pre-select some tag on the Tag Sidebar?
