I get a crash to desktop with Windows report dialog a few seconds after successful manual backup from the file menu.
Backup file looks fine and DB size slowly growing as expected.
UPDATE
I have just exported 1,300 notes as a 2 Mb text file ; but no crash after this safety export completed. Crash is after manual backups only.
---
I rely on CintaNotes on this old laptop, so I have several sections and after important notes are added, I do a manual backup and then I push that DB onto a cloud drive.
Crashes began after adding a long note in French into INbox ; moved that note to its Fr section ; crashes continued ; cut most text out of that long note, but crashes continue.
The size of the DB continues to grow as expected, but I may soon test the DB with another tool as this is unnerving and I rely on these notes.
The Windows desktop failure only offers the dialog to advise MS or not.
The latest 32-bit Comodo Ice Dragon browser is usually the only other desktop app running, BUT, this 1 Gb RAM laptop is swapping over one Gb just for that browser's many windows ( epub browsing for text comparisons )
Most notes involve Japanese characters and URL's ... most land untagged in the INBOX until I go back to tag and shuffle into sections; very few are ever deleted ( the garbage bin is empty )
Am only running against the one DB when this happening, but had been using a few some weeks back.
The only other issue has been cosmetic with the tag dropdowns remaining partially visible after a tag suggestion selected ( a re-paint issue in a frame, I suppose, but I have not been concerned enough to look for it as it is, for me, non-functional / no-impairment of app.)
I searched bug posts, but always fear a dup ; if so, apologies in advance
No issue yet with CN on the 8GB huge HD i7 Quad Win7 home Pro box with CN 2.5 - just on this aging HP laptop with its highly fragmented HD and usually less than 400 MB free given huge swap file and browser temp files burgeoning - but I routinely save files OK from the browser (epubs, PDF's)

Hi Aule,
Thanks a lot for the detailed problem report!
I'm sorry for the headaches this must be causing.
Could you please activate debug logging in the Help menu and
try to catch this crash "on tape"?
Please send the generated "log.1.txt" to me to support@cintanotes.com.
Thanks in advance!

Re: manual backup OK, then CN crash : vers 2.5 on Win XP SP3
flipping on debug logging cost me my latest notes when I decided to do File EXIT to be sure it started with logging ON ... as it gave me a bogus warning on my DB being a older version ... did I want to back it up ( NO, I wanted a clean shutdown )
Result - it wiped all notes from that DB.
I re-opened a backup from earlier today ( about 40 minutes work lost ) but THEN closed with no bogus warning.
PLEASE fix that bogus warning OR warn that no backup means data wipe of a given DB ?

worst case outcome
Crashes stopped with debug logging on ... but am also now working with another instance of the db given the glitch reported above.
Now to turn debug logging off ..

fatal crashes have ceased.
Does it get worse than this ( after several fatals in a row - NO successes - before I posted the bug ) ???
So how to track down this bug ? Why the bogus warning when I switched on debug logging ?

Hi Aule,
thanks for your help!
This "bogus" message sounds really suspicious. Are you sure you didn't install the latest 2.5.1 beta?
It will give you such message on start because it upgrades DB.
BTW ticking on the "debug log" will restart CN automatically, no need to do manual File/Exit.

Another idea: can it be that there was not enough free space on disk where the backup is written to?

200-400MB free on XP should be fine for writing a 2Mb file ; I work routinely with much larger PDF's and EPUB zips ... it could be a problem if CintaNotes is unable to recover after claiming more than needed and being denied it while doing what is intended to be cleanup post-backup.
The backups always succeeded ; CintaNotes always crashed after reporting success in its dialog.
I usually flipped over to a browser window and was working again when the XP failure dialog would appear.

Well since the log unfortunately will be of no use here, we'll have to narrow it down step by step.
Sorry for this, but I see no other way to track it down.
Do the crashes continue when you turn debug logging off again?
Does backing up of the same .db file crash on another PC?
Does backing up of a copy of this .db file crash?
Maybe you could narrow it down to a number of non-private notes which
you could send over to me?
Huge thanks for your help!
