Setting the path for backup [Backup]

Postby yogi » Wed Apr 02, 2014 3:41 pm

Hallo,

it would be helpful if one could set the path for the backup.
I would like to direct the backup for security reasons to another disk or external drive or NAS or usb-stick.
This would belong to the options menu or could be located under File/backup.

Kind regards
Yogi

Hi Yogi

You can set the backup path with the "backup.folder" parameter in the cintanotes.settings file in the directory where you have CN running. For example, I have the following:

backup.folder = c:\CintaNotes-backup

Thanks Gunar,

I use version 2.5.2 which does not have the file in the directory where CN is running. It seems to be located in C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Roaming\CintaNotes under Windows 8.1
but changing the value to backup.folder = G:\!CintaNote\!backupAktuell do not work.
I did stop and restart CN.
Windows accepts the change but afterwards cintanotes.settings seem to be overwriten by the original file.

Any suggestions?

Thanks again
Yogi

Hi Yogi,
yes, when CN is in Program Files, it places all user data into %APPDATA%/CintaNotes, because Program Files is read-only.

Please note that you need to exit CN _before_ you edit the settings file, otherwise your changes will be overwritten by CN when it is shutting down.

So the sequence is as follows:
1) Exit CN
2) Edit settings file
3) Run CN

Hope this helps!

.
Thank you.

However, I think that the best solution for the next version of CintaNotes is to allow the user to decide where he would like to store all automatic back-ups. Something like this in the menus: "File --> Backup --> Set Backup Folder..."
.
P.S. I am using CintaNotes 3.01
