Search enhancement

Postby Thomas Lohrum » Mon Jul 21, 2014 6:58 pm

Alex,

one minor suggestion for the search-dialog. When pressing Ctrl+F inside the dialog, please select all of the search-text. This allows to easy select and clear the text after editing. Tools like Chrome and Adobe Reader support this too.

Thanks!

Hi Thomas,

Don't quite get it - Ctrl+F inside of search dialog currently doesn't work.. perhaps you mean Alt+F (to focus the "Find" box)?

Steps to reproduce:

  • create new note
  • press Ctrl+F
  • Enter "abc"
  • press Ctrl+F again

The last Ctrl+F should select all of the text and highlight it, so search-text can be reset easily.

And what's the point in pressing Ctrl+F when the focus is already in the "Find" box?

It's not about the focus. The point is, that the search-text inside the dialog is not selected. By pressing Ctrl+F again i want the search-text to be selected. By pressing "Clear" or any other character the search-text will be deleted automatically. You can use my steps to reproduce the behaviour in Adobe Reader. It is convenient when you want to search for a new word.

Now I see what you mean. I agree that it would be useful and added this to the tracker.
I also think that when dialog is visible, Ctrl+F and Ctrl+Shift+F should work the same as F3/Shift+F3.
Thanks!

That sounds rather strange. Especially since we had just agreed, that Ctrl+F will select the current search-text. Now it would also jump to the next match, if any match available?

Yes, that's what I was thinking about. But now coming to think it through, probably this is not the best idea after all.
Let's limit the changes to focusing and selecting the search text.
