Not sure if this one is a bug or just undesired behaviour - I am hoping it is a bug that can be fixed. I change the search field to 'title only' and then type in a word to bring up some results. I want to edit the title of a number (ie multiple) of these notes. I open the first one, edit the title (remove the search term from the title) and then click ok. Once I do so, the search field resets (is made blank) and all my notes are shown. I then have to type the search text in again, edit the second note, whereupon the search field resets. I then have to keep repeating this process over and over. Is there any good design reason why the search results are cleared like this each time?

Hi USB,
i can not reproduce the described behaviour. For me the search-text is kept, even after editing the title. Maybe this is related to some settings of yours - or mine

Re: Title Search
Hi Thomas,
Thanks for trying to reproduce! It's very odd - I have just gone through the options menu, and CN doesn't really have all that many options to change - so I am not really sure what setting could interfere. Can you reproduce it if you do the following?
1. Create a new note, called "Mozilla Firefox" (without the quotes). You don't need any text in the note, just the title is fine.
2. Once created, change the search field to "Title Only".
3. In the search field, type "Mozilla" (again without the quotes).
4. You should see the note you created in step #1.
5. Double click the note, edit the title to remove "Mozilla".
6. When you click Ok on the note, CN should remove the search term from the search file (Mozilla) and should now show all your notes.
Thanks,
usb

Re: Title Search
Hi Usb,
it is still not reproducible to me, though i might be using a different CN version. Please tell, what version you are on. Also i suggest to enable debug-logging (see help menu) and provide the produced log-file together with your settings file to Alex.

Re: Title Search
Hi usb,
There is a less known cintanotes.settings option called "filters.autoreset.keepeditednotevisible".
It specifies what should be more important: either to keep the edited note visible in the list (possibly
resetting the search filter), or keep the search filter (possibly making the just edited note
disappear).
Most probably you have it set to 1. Please try changing it to 0 and tell me if this helps.
Thanks!

FYI: For me the value is set to zero.

Thanks for the info, Thomas! I guess this must be the reason why you and Chris (usb) were observing different behavior.

Re: Title Search
Indeed, yes - that setting is set to '1' on my installation. Setting it to '0' produces the behaviour I want. With many of CN's settings unavailable outside the GUI, is there a list anywhere of each setting and what it actually does?
Thanks,
Chris

Re: Title Search
The idea of this system is that the most useful settings will later be integrated into the GUI.
Some of such settings are described here (scroll down to "Advanced Configuration"), but unfortunately not all of them,
for example the setting discussed above is missing there.
Actually I'm starting to think that no one really needs the "reset filters to follow edited note" mode, so that
we can change the behavior to always keep the filter and eliminate the setting altogether.
Is there anyone who'd want the other behavior?

I think it is desired behaviour to not reset the filter, even when (all) notes will go out of scope. So yes, it can be removed.

Let's start with just changing the default value to 0 first.
