If I click the "check for update" link in CN, instead of the expected message to confirm my version is up to date, I get an error message: "Invalid version file" (preceded by a window that disappers too fast for me to read).
This is not an immediate issue (as I'm currently up to date), but might become one when the next update is released.

I see it as well. The full message is not very exciting:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/105 ... 0Error.wmv (WMV format, 221KB)
If your video player supports slow playback, you will easily be able to see the entire thing - 'connecting', 'finding server', 'downloading file' and then 'invalid version file'. Using 2.8.4 final here.

Re: "Check for update bug"?
Hi guys,
Thanks for the report!
Unfortunately I can't reproduce the problem here, so I have a couple of questions:
1) Does this happen 100% of time when you run update check?
2) Could you please record the log of the update check, and send it to me?
Here's once again the log recording routine:
Hope this is not too much to ask, thank you!

Here's once again the log recording routine:
1) Run CintaNotes and activate "Help/Debug/Debug Logging"
2) Try to repeat the problem
3) This will produce the file named "log.N.txt" (either in CN folder,
or in %APPDATA%\CintaNotes), where N is some number.
Please pick the file with the max N and send it to support@cintanotes.com
Please note that this file may contain some of your private data, such as tag
names (but no passwords). You may want to edit the file and remove this data
first.
Hope this is not too much to ask, thank you!

I deleted existing logs and turned on debugging, but it's now working ok for me.

Re: "Check for update bug"?
Turns out this was an access permission configuration issue on the server which is now fixed. Thanks guys!
