Hotkeys not saving

Postby tymyrick » Wed Aug 22, 2018 8:31 pm

Just re-downloaded the portable version of CintaNotes. It will not save hotkeys. Every time I try to save a global new note key, it resets to Ctrl+Enter.

OS: Windows 10 Enterprise 64-Bit

CN Version: 3.11 portable

Pane/window focus: any

Key combination: Ctrl+Ins preferred, but no selected shortcuts save

Clipping program: none

Screenshots: none

Steps:

1. Download CintaNotes_3_11.zip
2. Extract folder CintaNotes_3_11
3. Launch CintaNotes.exe
4. Open Configure Hot Keys menu.
5. Change Add new note hot key to selected hotkey (Ctrl+Ins)
6. Press OK and watch Add new note hot key field
7. Notice that it changes to Ctrl+Enter as the menu closes
8. Try the new hot key
9. Notice that it does not work
10. Try Ctrl+Enter
11. See that it opens a new note window

Expected result:

Configure Hot Keys menu will save changes to hotkeys and hotkeys will work while CN is running.

This works ok for me in Win 7 with CN 3.12b1 portable (and earlier). I have no trouble setting the hotkey to Ctl-INS and having it persist, so this is environment related.

Two suggestions:
1) What directory are you running this in? If it's one of the system directories like Program Files, try moving it somewhere else. I believe Win 10 is more restrictive as to what can write into these locations.

2) Try running CN as Administrator (right-click CN and select 'Run as administrator').

Are you able to set it to anything else other than Ctl-Enter?

As I said, I am trying this in CN portable version 3.11. I am not sure where to download the beta version, but it does't matter. The problem is in the stable version.

I am running CN portable from my Documents folder. I cannot save another hotkey besides Ctrl+Enter. I have tried changing it to different combinations.

I can change the hotkey in CN portable v3.8 without trouble.

I cannot run programs as an administrator on my work machine, so I am not able to test that. If you need something else, I'm happy to help.

I just downloaded a fresh CN 3.11 portable and put it in my Documents folder (again, I'm on Win 7). I had no problems changing the hotkey to Ctrl-INS or anything else. How did you set it to Ctrl-Enter in the first place as that's not the default? Can you try running it in some other directory. e.g. c:\cntest ? You also might check the permissions on the cintanotes.settings file.

Is the CN 3.8 that works ok for you also in Documents?

That's all I've got to suggest unfortunately.

BTW, I'm just a user, like you.

Hi tymyrick!
Sorry for late reply.
I also couldn't reproduce the issue.
Could you please tell me
1) Does the problem persist when you run CN as administrator?
2) Do you maybe have some other software preventing CN from changing hotkeys? Does the problem persist when you load Windows in safe mode?

Thanks!
Alex
